20: Announcement

"So Minlee, what are you going to do", Sumin inquired. She handed me an iced coffee as we sat down at the SM building cafeteria.

"That's what I'm asking you. What should I do???!! I don't know!!"

"Well...is it that important for you to leave? You've really impressed the entire team so far with how well you work. It's a shame to have you quit...."

"Sumin-ah....do you think Lee Sooman would understand?! I can't fail! I'll have no future! But...I also don't want to quit forever! If you would just give me...two weeks..."

Silence. Sumin sighs carefully, and continues with her advice-

"Okay, let's try this. There will be a time next month where all of NCT's promotions will end for them to take a rest. We were originally planning for a short break for the staff as well...but if Sooman lets you...I guess you could leave for that short span of time to do whatever you need."

"O-Oh my gosh!! Really?!? Do you really think??! Oh my gosh, thank goodness!! Ahh Sumin I really hope he'll let me!!"

"I'll vouch for you. Besides, you're smart, how long could you possibly take?" Sumin winks at me and I reciprocate with a large hug.

"Thank you....Sumin, I'm going through a really, really hard time. I'm so confused with everything. I just..hope things will start getting better from now."

"Ohh, don't worry and focus on one thing at a time. Whatever it is, you know unni will always have your back. You should go now and catch Sooman before he leaves for whatever busy schedule he always has." I slurped the last of my iced coffee and shot it in the trashcan. I flurried out and ran upstairs to the fourth floor. I dash through three hallways and finally arrive centimeters from the door of SM's office. After taking five deep breaths, I gently pound the door.

"Who is it?"

"It's Mi-minlee. If you're busy, I can leav--"

"Come in." I enter slowly, with my head bowing so low I can barely see his face. "It's okay, it's just me. Come sit down here." He warmly smiles at me. "How are you?"

"Well...that's the thing. I'm not doing very well right now. I...have a problem."

"What is it? Is this why you came to speak to me?"

"Ah..well yes. Um so.. ...

I have to go back. To Canada!

But only for a short while! It will barely take any time!

I need to do this in order to graduate!! Please...I really, really want to graduate!! I don't want to fail!!
But I also really love my internship!! Even though I have to go...I really...I really don't want to quit my internship.. I love both equally so I just...I was wondering.."

"... If it's alright for you to leave and come back?"

"...Yes."

"Well....It will be complicated. NCT has to finish ALL their promotions before you can leave. Really. And that won't be until two months."

"It's okay! I can wait!! As long as I go within this year I'll be fine!!!"

"And now that you're leaving, you'll have to work with double the efficiency. And you'll have to take your own time for the travel paperwork. You should be gone for only three weeks, maximum. Everything will be your responsibility, so if you think you can handle it, go ahead.."

"Really!!??!? Yes yes, I promise I will be super responsible!! Thank you thank you thank you! I'll work so hard!!!" I leave out of the room with my feelings on a high. Finally, my life is starting to change for the better.

"I believe in you. You should talk to your NCT friends about this. I think they're all somewhere in this building..."

"Okay, I will!! Thank you again, Sooman teacher!!"

They're somewhere in this building? I really, really don't want to meet Doyoung though. It's barely been a few days since we broke up... I guess I'll just look around and hope that I find an NCT member that isn't Doyoung.....

I pass the entrance to the badminton court. Maybe they're in here. I enter and find Haechan and Johnny playing a match, with Taeil keeping score.

"Hello?" The birdie flies down from Haechan's weak smash upon seeing me.

"Minleeee!!!!" He runs towards me to give me a hug. I tap his back and swish his hair.

"Aha, hi....are you three the only ones here?" Please be the only ones here.

"Yep!! The others are scattered over the building. We wanted to play sports so we came here! You can play too...just after we finish our match." Haechan giddies back to the court and resumes his game with Johnny.

"You can speak with me. I'm tired of keeping score, haha"

"Oh okay..I actually came to say something?"

"What? Is it about Doyoung?"

"Wh-what?!? Doyoung!? What makes you say that?"

"Doyoung...told us last night about his situation. We were all pretty surprised, to be honest."

"Oh....my god. This is so crazy. I just..don't know. But..I came to announce something else. I'm...going to leave in a while."

"WHat?!??! No Minlee!! Why?!? Is your internship over already??"

"No...it's just... something came up. It's academia related so it's urgent that I go."

"No....Minlee...but my wish. I wanted you to stay with us forever. Please don't go.."

"Oh, don't worry!! It'll be only for a few weeks. Even with everything, I will keep your wish. I promise you I would be with you guys forever. I promise."
