"i'll be out for a little while, for fresh air" joshua said as he walked around the city for the last hour scouting for the best ramen places.
he trapped himself in his room for the last few hours, getting school work done. unlike one of his friends, he knew where to put a limit and have some time for himself, to be stress free about school life.
finally, he picked one of the new places that looked clean and decent enough for him.
the ramen shop was quite empty, but it's normal considering it was around 8:30 PM on a weekday. he sat at the counter, facing the back of a girl who was on the phone.
"...no joohyuk i'm not on my night shift.. no i'm not lying... and no please don't come to the shop to check if i'm telling the truth i'm just bored that's all!! no there's not anyone right no-"
she turned around at that moment to see joshua sitting there, giving her a small wave with a smile.
"um you know what i'll call you later bye!!" she hurriedly hung up and placed her phone in her back pocket. she took a quick look around "the other waitress already left..." she whispered to herself, sighing.
she cleared her throat and smiled at the customer, taking out notepad and a pen "hi! sorry for that.. may i take your order?"
he chuckled "it's alright, it's understandable considering it's getting late. i'll take number seven please"
she nodded with a smile and slid the paper with the order to the chef behind her.
she didn't think he would have much interest in her after that, there was no reason to. so she sat on a stool behind the cash register, far from him. she played on her phone this time, she didn't want to seem rude again to be on a call with a friend at work.
he felt like he has seen her somewhere, she felt familiar to him (while she paid no mind to him at all, sadly).
"excuse me, are you on a sports team?" he asked from his seat. the silence before made his voice louder than it actually was.
she snapped her head up at the question "yes...? i'm part of a football team" she put her phone down and walked up to him.
his eyes widened and his smile grew wider as he finally recalled who she was.
"you go to kingsgate right? i've seen you around!"
"o-oh really?" her eyes lit up at the thought of being known by others, but then she remembered it's mostly negative things that made them such a popular subject at the new school. a frown was suddenly brought to her face.
he tilted his head, confused by the sudden change of mood "you don't like being known?"
"ah no! my friends and i are usually 'known' for the wrong things. we're completely innocent!" she quickly added.
joshua sighed, recalling his friends bad mouthing the girls a few days before. he wasn't exactly the happiest with that.
he knows both groups do not have a very good liking towards each other, so he may as well not mention them at all, nor tell her he's amongst the group, not yet.
he decided to change subject "but hey! it's really amazing that you're part of the football team"
her smile quickly came back and her eyes shined brighter than the first time "thank you!! i'd like to travel around the world one day after i become a footballer!"
she seemed so genuine, it warmed his heart to know such a sincere person goes to a school like kingsgate. sure, it's big and pretty, but it's not filled with the best people.
while he was deep in thought, she carefully brought his bowl of ramen and gently put it down in front of him "here's your order!" she said enthusiastically.
how could she be so cute.
before he digged in, he lifted his head up to the girl "i apologize for not asking this earlier, but i believe i still haven't gotten your name?"
"cheon minji" she answered with another cute smile.
"nice to meet you! i'm joshua. now, i think i ordered more than i needed, would you care to eat with me?"
