The darkest day of my life was when my brother died. The darkest time of my life was every day after.
Those boys were in for the surprise of their lives,
Life was just beginning and the world was just changing.
The night air set their minds racing,
And the silence spread over the salt of newly wet faces,
They were in the age where boys turn to men.
They sat and they thought of how wrong they had been.
They sat and thought of life's only flaw.
As one sat the other rubbed his jaw,
Has this really happened? It just can't be real.
As one rubbed his jaw the other one kneeled.
Grabbing at the dust that only slide through his fingers,
As this boy kneeled another tasted what lingered.
Down one cheek following a trail to his lips,
As this one tasted, another boy's heart rips.
The tightness of his chest about to implode,
The silence as they sat about to explode.
Life's only flaw just gave them a deadly blow.
They sit in a brotherhood brought together by one.
They could do nothing because it was already done.
When the news struck their hearts missed a beat.
Everyone was silent,
It was June Ninetieth.
Years past them by, their lives they have run,
Life slowing down as fast as it begun,
The brotherhood brought back together by one.
They were at the age where men tired and matured,
But this moment pushed back everything endured,
They all stood in silence as they thought about the past,
About life's only flaw and the spell it had cast.
As one stood and thought, another bent down,
Picking at the green grass that had grew on the mound.
As that man was picking another man touched, the cold stone giving his finger tips a rush.
As this one touched another one saw,
"Here lays Nelson taken by life's only flaw."
They all stood and thought about that night.
Sadness catching all of the light,
They all thought about his life, wishing he could be seen.
That faithful night....
Month of June, Day Nineteen.
