The red string of fate, also referred to as the 'red thread of destiny', 'red thread of fate', and other variants, is an East Asian belief originating from Chinese legend and is also used in Japanese legend. According to this myth, the gods tie an invisible red string around the ankles of men and women who are destined to be soul mates and will one day marry each other. Often, in Japanese culture, it is thought to be tied around the little finger. The two people connected by the red thread are destined lovers, regardless of time, place or circumstances. This magical cord may stretch or tangle, but never break.
The Red Strings of Fate
Chapter 1: Prologue
Alexander’s P.O.V
In a new town, everything can change; I guess that’s what my mom thought; I knew better, a new town didn’t mean she would magically forget about my dad, I wouldn’t easily re-organize my life thinking I didn’t leave my friends back there. My mom must be crazy. We arrived at the town called Scarlet back when I was 16; my mom and dad divorced separating me and my older brother as well. The house wasn’t bad if you wanted to leave in a haunted mansion and in the right side’s facing a cemetery and the left a park. I settled in a room in the left wing, no way was I facing a cemetery. First days were about fitting in, which I was really good at, seeing even before my parents separated; we always moved. School was fine, though there were jerks, there were flirts, but what academy doesn’t. The place was called Scarlet Academy which actually made sense seeing the town’s name is Scarlet. Well, tomorrow’s the actual start of school, and I’m not excited like the rest as the population and neither am I sad about it. I lied in my bed, hoping for the best tomorrow and for much need shut-eye.
The next day,
I opened my eyes, as the morning light began to pour in on account I never shut the curtains, I cursed myself for that. I took a bath and wore my uniform; yes it’s a private school. I walked downstairs and saw my mom cooking breakfast in a very beautiful dress; must’ve meant she had a meeting or presentation. “Honey, I won’t be back early so here’s an extra key okay?” she asked me like a 9-year old. I nodded like an idiot and smiled. As soon as I finished eating, my mom had already left. It was a good thing I had a driver’s licence and a car so wouldn’t have to go on public utility vehicles like a bus, I hate crowded places. I opened the car, injected the key and drove, the feel of the air condition soothed me, and this was one hot day. I arrived at Scarlet Academy with 25 minutes to spare. I decided to look at which class I was on; I peered at the class lists and tried not to get smashed by the groups of students who were jumping, giggling, and high-fiving each other. I was in class 4-A, considering I was smart; I made my way to the class room and sat down on the back side next to the windows, they were soothing. Someone sat next to me and caught my attention. She had short brown hair and reddish eyes, or were they really red, I stared too long I guess, because she started to look uneasy, “Is there a problem?” she said barely below a whisper, I shook my head, she nodded and turned her attention to the front, the teacher was telling us how this was going to be the best year, and how she would happily educate us all. A lie she probably told the other students way back then. I tried to pay attention but I could smell her scent and it was intoxicating, It was weird, she seemed like the type of girl who reads books and stays at home, but there was this distinct aura of hers that told me she was more than that; I shook the thought and got ready for bell.
Recess,
I wanted to introduce myself so I did, “Hey,” I called, she noticed me and turned around, “Hi, I’m Alexander Dorian,” I said, she smiled, “I’m Elizabeth Meyers, nice to meet you Alexander,” she said and went her way, I awed at her and probably looked stupid watching her leave. I couldn’t take my mind off her.
I went home the afternoon and cooked for myself in the night. I couldn’t sleep that night so I went to my balcony for some stargazing, I didn’t think I’d see her sitting on a park bench, nor did I thought that night would change my entire life.
