Edit 2022: this was written when I was 13, this is not meant to erase a gay character, it was merely for experimental writing with a character I liked after seeing many fan fictions like this about Alec at the time. It is in no way an attack on the LGBT community as I respect and understand the hate and grief many have faced. It is simply a playful piece of writing with no deeper meaning. Please take it this way, if you wish for a true representation of the character, please look for Alec x male oc.~~~•~~~
Talia weaved the bandaged handle of a dagger between her fingers as if it were a pen. Not something that she would be arrested for handling - had she been in public. A book lay open, forgotten at the kitchen table as she heard her mother squeal in joy, knowing she would soon run in to tell her of the news. Her sister's best friend - Simon, had tweeted about Clary getting into the art academy. Talia had known already, knowing his announcement would reach her before Clary's words would.Recalling her own acceptance to Harvard University two years prior, her mother had barely made a sound. The tone of voice was easily recalled: a simple and monotonal, 'Well done'. Talia clicked her tongue, catching herself before she dipped too deeply into those thoughts.
Talia knew she wasn't as outgoing as her sister, often missing the complexities of social cues and forwardness. The dagger throwing was something she picked up from Luke - her almost stepfather. As a police officer, he had been insistent on the girls taking up some form of self-defence. The eldest daughter had just happened to take to all of them.
And soon after that, she had found out she was a Shadowhunter.
Talia was sixteen, walking back home from school on the same route she had taken for all of her years there. She had no reason to believe that that day would be any different. Turning onto the quieter street leading to her family apartment, she had watched as a boy with a bow slung over his back and sword in hand clashed with a oversized humanoid demon.
The demon had launched the boy into a wall, his sword sailing through the air and landing a few metres ahead of where she was stood in the alleyway. Following the glow of the sword, the demons eyes had latched onto Talia. Without thinking, her body had drove her towards the sword, just as the demon had charged. The next thing she knew the demon was on the ground with the sword through its skull. Though, this image didn't last long before it disintegrated at the contact from the sword.
The boy that was no longer against the wall. She had looked for him only to see a dark flash of movement. A glimpse of bright eyes. Though, he had left the sword with her. Talia remembered observing the markings, the ones which made it no ordinary blade. Runes: she'd later come to know them as. Though the letters on the hilt were symbols she readily recognised.
