"Sorry for stabbing you with a dagger."

Talia watched as the woman shrugged her shoulders and responded, "It's fine, I would have expected no less if Valentine really did walk in."

The tall brunette turned to Alec who was giving her an impressed look as Lydia walked past them and further into the Institute, immediately seeking out the head of the Institute.

"Maryse," She called as the older woman was joined by Izzy as they neared the short glass staircase with the former wearing a stern look, "The Clave has ordered me to take temporary control of this Institute."

Talia's eyes widened at the new information. She turned to see Alec wearing a similar look whilst Max still stood behind him, not understanding the situation they were in.

"Wait a minute," Maryse started, "Nobody informed us-"

"The Clave doesn't need to," Lydia interrupted her, her voice seeming smug as she turned away from the machine she had earlier walked towards, "And, to repeat myself, it's temporary, nothing's been decided yet."

She moved across the room to a larger monitor where she used her stele to access something that Talia could not interpret from the distance between them.

"But I do need full clearance in order to assess how this Institute is running."

Talia looked to her right and could almost see the smoke rising from Maryses' ears. If looks could kill, Lydia would currently be sixty feet under.

When Lydia had what she wanted from the monitor she turned to Alec and Talia, "Where is Clary Fairchild?"

Neither of them answered as they tried to come up with an excuse for where they were as they obviously couldn't say that she was currently underground making a decision on whether to kill her best friend or let him become a vampire. That would be difficult to explain.

Lydia looked between the Lightwoods as nobody answered her, "I would hope someone here knows."

"She's in the field, training," Alec quickly inputted, his tone low, showing his annoyance at this woman's presence.

Lydia tilted her head down and looked at him disbelievingly, "You're telling me she's just out and about in the streets of New York?"

She stopped in front of him whilst he looked above her head and towards his sister on the other side of the room as she continued, "Valentine's daughter?"

"Isn't she also your cousin?" Izzy called, her arms across her chest, tapping her fingers on them as she glared the woman down.

Lydia turned, her eyes narrowed, "Distant cousin."
