"So, Jace, what exactly are we doing here? I feel like I've missed a whole episode."

Talia shuffled from foot to foot as she watched Valentine within Magnus' body leave the room.

Evaluating the appearance of the living space, Talia's face was set in a permanent grimace.

Books were flung across the floor. The curtains were left ajar and haphazardly strewn across the windows. Dishes were left out on the table, and from everything Talia saw, she wondered more about how much she had missed in her slumber.

Jace's eyes kept on where Valentine had disappeared to, "I honestly have no idea, I thought he was Magnus when he asked me to meet him here to plan a surprise for you. Next thing I know he had created these-"

He raised his arms, indicating to the binds that held them both firmly to the ground.

"-And then he brought you here through a portal, but you were just standing with your eyes closed. I imagine he used magic to hold you up, you certainly weren't conscious though."

Talia nodded, although she didn't fully understand why it was necessary to have them both. Her best assumption was that he needed the best fighter and the most diverse Shadowhunter hybrid out of the way for whatever he had in mind.

"What's happening with your magic?" Jace looked at her from the corner of his eye, not wanting to drop his guard.

Talia shook her head, "I have no idea, all I know is that I can't use any of my abilities that aren't innately Shadowhunter. But because of this-"

She nudged her arm within the sling, "-I'm pretty much useless to you right now."

He shook his head, "You can't be useless when you can still manage to confuse everyone in a room with your words."

Talia rolled her eyes but quickly looked forward as she saw Valentine walked back in, positioning himself on the other side of Jace.

Valentine, using Magnus' magic, waved a projection in front of them. An image of the Institutes basement, where inmates were held for trial appeared.

There sat the real Valentine, except Talia figured Magnus must be within the body, with Inquisitor Herondale by his side, moving for the interrogation.

Talia's eyes widened as Alec exited the chamber and rounded to where Valentine had positioned them.

"Hello Alec," Magnus' voice as Valentine rung out.

"Alec, I'm so sorry, you were right," Jace started, "They switched."

Alec's eyes darted across the three and lingered on where Talia was stood. His mouth gaped slightly before he turned on his heel and ran back into the room, stopping the Inquisitor as she held a knife to the fake Valentine's neck.
