My momma makes some cookies and she says there's extra, so I take them to the neighbors. Momma likes them a lot.

Maria smiles and says, "Thank you." So softly, I thought I imagined It.

She asks, " Can you take that to the young man feeding the pigs?"

I nod, excited, they don't have kids, so you must be new and we never get anyone new here anymore. I take the small plate she gave me and the glass of milk before heading towards the back.

I see a strong body bending down with the bucket of slush and the top of light hair. Then he looks up and my breath catches. Those blue eyes.

"Pete?"
