 Dear Diary,

Most people say we were abducted by Indians, others think we couldn't survive the harsh terrain, and some even go as far as to say we were turned into trees because we angered some Indian spirit.

But no, none of those theories are correct, in fact, we have been living under your very own feet, for over four hundred years. No one remembers how we got down here, or even where we came from, except for our leaders, who selfishly keep us trapped down here, and rule over us in fear of what lurks on the earth above us. They are afraid that if we learn the truth, they will no longer be in charge.

But I escaped just last night, I had had my suspicions, but what I saw, who I met, I now know the truth. I know that the world above is filled color, light, different smells, and so many different things to feel and touch. Why we are being hidden away from that paradise is beyond me.

I tried telling people in secret today, but they all think I'm mad, I can't leave my family either, they are all I have.

Do I leave and hope that one day that they find their way out of this prison? Or do I stay here, and live forever knowing that there is a better life for everyone just fifty feet above us?

What Do I Do?
