Chapter 1- Awake
Her breathing was shaky, she tried her best to hold her breath. The chemicals in the room were suffocating her. She couldn't take it anymore, and she opened her eyes, which were bright, fluorescent green. Her intake of breath was that of a loud gasp. She struggled to sit up, since she was strapped to what seemed to be a metal operation table. Clenching her fist, she pulled up. The wrist clamp broke off. Astonished, she did it again with her other arm. Then her legs. Swinging them over the table, she took in her surroundings. She seemed to be in a laboratory, which explained the chemical smell.
She's been experimented on.
Walking around, she came across what she thought was a light switch. Flicking it up, she examined the room.
The place was trashed. She thought it looked like the destroyed inside of the TARDIS. But it was a lab.
There were five other unconscious teenagers strapped to metal tables. All of which she recognized. There was her brother, her boyfriend, her two best friends and her best friend's girlfriend. She remembered she was with them, but not how they got here.
She heard another gasp. "Ariana?" they called. She recognized the voice as her brother's. Felix.
"Felix?" Ariana responded.
"Get me out of this!" He yelled. Ariana ran over to him, and pulled on his fist, breaking the metal cuff. "How did you.. how did you do that?" He asked, his eyes (also fluorescent green) wide.
"I have no idea," she said.
"Do it again," he said. Ariana nodded, and pulled on his other fist, breaking the other metal cuff. "Let me try," he said, kicking his leg up. The cuff on his ankle broke, and he repeated the action.
"Jesus Christ," they echoed. Felix sat up, rubbing his forehead. "This place reeks," he grumbled.
"Why are your eyes bright green?" Ariana asked him.
"I don't know. Yours are too," Felix said. Ariana searched the ground for something reflective, and she found a shard of what could have been a broken mirror. Examining her face, she saw her eyes were, in fact, bright green. She closed them for a second, then reopened them. They had returned to their original color, hazel. Felix grabbed the shard, and repeated Ariana's action, except his eyes turned back to brown.
"What the-" he began, but was cut off by a third gasp, followed by coughing.
"Bloody hell, this place smells like a hospital morgue," said a voice.
"Rory!" Ariana gasped, running over to him. He had a cut on his cheek; he must've put up a fight with whoever strapped them down. His eyes had turned a startlingly bright blue. His eyes had almost a glow to them.
"Do me a favor and get me out of this, will you? I can't feel my legs," he said. Ariana smiled, put her hand on his and pulled up with ease. Rory's eyes widened to the size of dinner plates. "What happened to you?" he asked, surprise in his voice.
"I have no idea," Ariana responded truthfully, a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
"Let me try," Rory said, clenching a fist and pulling his arm up. "Wicked," he grinned. He repeated the action with his legs. Rory sat up, and swung his legs over the side of the metal table. Ariana placed her hand on his cheek, running her thumb along his cut.
"What happened there?" She asked softly.
"No idea," he smiled gently. He jumped down from the metal table, and pulled Ariana close to him. Rory placed his hands on her waist and smiled. "You're beautiful," he said quietly. Ariana would have responded, but Felix cleared his throat. Ariana still smiled at Rory, and he let her go.
"Should we wake the others?" Felix asked.
"Yeah," Ariana replied. Rory nodded in agreement. Felix walked over to his girlfriend, Lindsey. Rory and Ariana split up and hovered over Keith. Keith is Rory's younger brother and Ariana's best friend.
"Should we punch him?" Rory asked.
"No. We don't know if he has any broken bones or anything," Ariana replied.
"You're no fun," Rory scoffed. Ariana only smiled.
Ariana, Rory and Felix discovered that they couldn't force Keith, Lindsey and Katie (she's Keith's girlfriend) to wake up. So they decided to sit and wait.
Over the course of an hour, Keith, Lindsey, and Katie all regained consciousness. They all had passed the broken mirror shard around, changing their eye color back to its original colors. Keith's eyes had turned bright blue, like Rory's had. They both had soft blue eyes genetically, so their color wasn't as startling as Katie's or Lindsey's. Katie's eyes had turned a bright, almost glowing orange. When she closed them for a second and reopened them, they returned to their light green. Lindsey's eyes had turned a florescent, bright red. When she repeated Katie's action, her eyes returned to their original dark brown.
After everyone's eyes had turned back to normal, they tried to recollect what happened, starting with the cut on Rory's cheek. When they couldn't figure it out, they sat in silence for a minute.
Suddenly, a door opened. The six teenagers turned in the direction if the sound. In walked a man with a stethoscope around his neck and a lab coat over his clothes. "You survived," he said, "you all actually survived. Good. I'm Dr. Allen and congratulations on becoming the first successful new breed of humans."
