"Again! Get up!" Gil shouted. Gil was Dr. Allen's personal assistant. He was assigned to train the kids in combat. The kid he was shouting at was Keith. Gil didn't have a scratch on him. Keith, however, was bleeding from his arm, leg and face. His lip was split (which he would probably need stitches to close) and he had a black eye. Keith wiped the dirt off his pants and stood up. He shot a wary glance at Rory, who shrugged. "You need to focus more! That's your problem. You have a good technique, you just can't focus. Which is why you suck," Gil explained. Keith glared.
"Keith sucks at everything," Ariana chimed in.
Ariana, Felix, Rory and Lindsey were sitting on the ground, watching Keith essentially get his ass kicked. Katie wasn't to be found. As per usual.
"I need to get my lip fixed. Please," Keith pleaded.
"Fine. Ariana, your turn," Gil said as Keith left. Ariana swore under her breath and stood. She tied her hair back and rolled her shoulders. She cracked her knuckles and walked toward Gil. Gil smiled at her, to which Rory responded with a glare.
"Okay, do I hit you or what?" Ariana asked.
"Punch me. As hard as you can," Gil said. Ariana clenched a fist, and punched Gil in the shoulder.
"Ow," Ariana said, shaking out her hand.
"Yeah, you need this more than Keith," Gil said. Ariana shot him a look, and Gil only smiled. "Now stand like you're going to hit me," he added. Ariana took her stance and looked at him. Gil took one look at her stance and sighed. "No, no, no. No," he pinched the bridge of his nose, "your feet are too far apart and your shoulders aren't square," Gil took two steps over to her and fixed her position. Rory ground his teeth, debating on threatening Gil for touching Ariana. But, he decided to stay silent.
"This doesn't look right," Ariana said, looking down at her feet.
"Trust me, you're fine," Gil replied, taking the same stance, "you should have more power behind your punches now," he added. Gil gave Ariana the "okay" to swing, so she did. Ariana punched Gil square in the jaw, and Gil swore he felt something move. "Jesus Christ," Gil swore, a string of profanities following. Ariana smiled and turned to Rory.
"Did you see that?" She grinned. Ariana was pleased she managed to hit Gil in the face. She was on the shorter side- she usually had to reach up to hit people. Maybe Gil bent down some so she had a fair shot. That was plausible.
"That was a hell of a punch, I'm surprised you didn't knock out any of my teeth," Gil said, still rubbing his jaw.
"It's like she read my mind," Rory said. Rory didn't like Gil very much. There was just something about him that put him off, maybe it was his face. Gil raised an eyebrow at Rory's comment, but thought nothing of it. Ariana gave Rory a weird look. He's been kind of touchy since they met Gil a few days ago, no one knew why. Maybe it was a side affect from the procedure only Rory has. Everyone else seemed relatively normal.
Aside from Katie.
No one knew what was up with her. Hopefully it was nothing serious. To break the silence that had overcome the group, Keith came back in. His lip was fairly swollen, but it was stitched up nicely. He took his place next to Rory.
"I get the stitches out in a week," he said. Rory was too busy glaring at Gil to respond. Gil did end up glaring back, jaw clenched and eyes narrowed.
"I believe we've had enough training for today," Gil said.
"I agree," Rory replied, walking out without waiting for anyone else.
Keith hung back to walk with Ariana while Felix and Lindsey went ahead.
"What's up with him?" Keith asked.
"I have no idea," Ariana sighed heavily, pulling her hair out of its ponytail. Her hair fell down her shoulders to her mid back in dark curls.
The two walked down the hallway, unaware of Katie watching overhead.
