"What do you mean, 'new breed of humans'?" Ariana asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Exactly that. You are my first six. But you put up quite a fight. Especially that one," Dr. Allen replied, pointing a finger at Rory. He smirked.
"But I don't understand. What have you done with us?" Keith asked.
"Simple. I drew a sample of your DNA, I altered every one and I surgically injected it back into your bodies. Each of you control an element. Since most of you are siblings, you share an element. The element you have corresponds with the color your eyes change when you use your powers. Your eyes also change with rapid mood swings," Dr. Allen said.
"Wait, wait, wait," Rory said.
"Yes?" Dr. Allen smiled.
"You said we're the first successes. You've done this on other people?" he asked.
"I've been doing this for many years. For the first time since I began, I have finally created a new race of humans," Dr. Allen grinned.
"What happened to the other people you've done this too?" Katie asked.
"That's not something you need to know," Dr. Allen snapped. Katie took a glance up at Keith, and he only shook his head.
"You said something about powers. What powers do we have?" Felix asked, raising his eyebrows.
"Ah, yes. Your powers. Well, you've all been given enhanced strength, which I see you've discovered," Dr. Allen began, eyeing the metal operation tables.
"So if I punch my brother, I'll break him?" Rory asked.
"Not necessarily. You could hurt him, yes, but like I said, you all have strength. It will have to take more than punches and kicks to hurt each other," Dr. Allen answered.
"Damn," Rory grumbled.
"And we all have our own individual powers alongside strength?" Lindsey asked.
"Precisely. Your power corresponds with the color of your eyes as I've said before," Dr. Allen began, "so take Ariana and Felix. Their eyes turn a bright green. Green is associated with earth. Trees, dirt, mud, vines. The works," Dr. Allen said.
"So what you're saying is that we can manipulate the dirt under our feet?" Felix asked, eyes wide.
"Yes," Dr. Allen answered.
"Wow," Ariana said, grinning up at her brother.
"What about us?" Keith asked, indicating himself and Rory.
"Your eyes turned blue, correct?" Dr. Allen asked. They nodded. "You have water," he said.
"Aw," Keith said.
"What?" Lindsey asked.
"I hoped for something cooler," he sighed.
"Oh, grow up," Lindsey rolled her eyes.
"Then there's you, Lindsey. You and Katie were particularly interesting. But since your eyes turn red, you can control fire," Dr. Allen said to her.
"Oh, bloody hell," Keith and Rory echoed.
"So I can set fire to things?" Lindsey asked.
"You can also manipulate it. Make things out of it. You can also set yourself on fire, but it won't burn you," Dr. Allen replied.
"Bloody hell!" Keith and Rory repeated.
"Watch your backs," Lindsey warned.
"And then, there was one," Dr. Allen smiled at Katie. Keith glared at him for a second, then grabbed Katie's hand. "At first I thought you wouldn't make it. Your procedure was exceptionally difficult. But, alas, so is your ability," he said.
"What's so difficult about controlling air? Tornadoes and stuff. Woohoo," she said, crestfallen. She was upset she didn't have a cool power like Ariana or Keith.
"You don't have air," Dr. Allen said.
"Then what do I have?" she asked.
"Energy. You manipulate electricity. Cause disastrous thunderstorms. You are, essentially, radioactive," Dr. Allen said.
"Radioactive?" Katie squeaked, gripping Keith's hand tighter.
"Yes, but if pushed to your limits, you all are," Dr. Allen began, and clapped his hands together. "Now, who wants to test out their powers? Follow me," he said, reopening the metal door he entered from.
