“Nikki!”
I jerked up and looked around to find Jenny gone and the door open. Grabbing only the 45’s I quickly climbed out of the hole and between the boulders.
As I came out I came to a stop to see an unknown man with an eye patch holding jenny up by her hair. I pointed the guns at her, “Let her go.” I growled cocking the guns.
Two more guys stepped from the tree lines on either side of him and I watched them carefully.
The guy holding jenny smirked, “Now why would I do that, when you are the one that shot me.” He pulled his shirt down to reveal scar, “Now what stumps me is why a silver bullet left a scar. Usually it just heals up.” he let go of his shirt glaring at me.
“The bullets are dipped in wolf’s bane.” I told him watching the other men slowly move closer to me.
My eye caught jenny move her hand to her leg where I saw her pull out a knife. Smiling slightly I tightened the grip on my gun, “I answered your question now answer mine. Why attack my village.”
His lips stretched into an evil grin, “Why we were looking for more slaves.”
Just as he said that Jenny turned and stabbed the knife into his stomach. He cried out letting her go and the two closest to him turned and I shot them in the center of their chests as jenny ran to me.
I shot the other ones and jenny went straight for the room. I heard a howl making me mutter a curse and slide in between the boulders.
Locking the rock into place I quickly gathered things, “What were you doing out there.” I told her quietly.
She packed, “I had to go pee.” I sighed softly and patted around until I found the latch for the escape tunnel. I quickly made her go in and heard the crash of the boulders being smashed out of the way. Sliding two bags into the tunnel then myself I locked it behind me.
We were about 20 feet away when I heard them enter the room. Ushering her quicker she crawled faster. This tunnel was only big enough to crawl in.
She got to the opening and pushed the tree’s bark off before climbing out. She grabbed the bags and I followed.
Pulling the bags onto my back I grabbed her hand and ran. I passed her the 9mm and we just ran as fast as we could.
I don't know how long we ran but Jenny told me she could run anymore. I just picked her small frame up and kept running.
My lungs burned and I couldn't feel my legs anymore but I kept running. Jenny panted with her head rested on my shoulder, “I'm sorry, next time I will tell you.”
I didn't have the energy to tell her it was alright I was just focused on getting away. It was almost dark time before my legs gave out and I collapsed onto my hands and knees.
Jenny scrambled to get up and pulled me up. We walked and I got water for us. Gulping down water we kept going.
Some point in the night jenny was getting sleepy so I just picked her up and she slept on me as I continued to walk.
As the sun began to rise it was hard to keep my eyes open and I knew I had a wobble as I walked. Sliding down a tree I took a small rest. Jenny was still fast asleep. She knows I would protect her with my life, she must feel safe wrapped in my arms… I wonder what that feels like.
Slapping myself I woke up some more and pushed my-self up to keep walking. Stopping at a small creek I woke jenny up so we could bathe, but right after she fell back asleep. My whole body was sore but I didn't care. Walking through some trees I was surprised to see a dirt road.
