Knight trotted down the road and we continued on. Within the hour we had left that town behind and headed on. After a short break we rode on and I was surprised to find this town was only 15 minutes away. Getting from the first town to the second almost took 2 weeks… maybe because we walked most of it.

As we entered the town I saw it wasn’t as bad as the first town but wasn’t as good as the second. It was mix of werewolves and humans. There were a lot more servant looking people than there were regular people.

I decided to just pass through the town before it got dark. It didn't feel safe here. I was nearing the edge of town when I heard my name being called.

“Nikki! Is that you? Nikki!”

Looking over my shoulder I saw a bearded man running towards me. I was confused for a moment before my heart clenched. Pulling Knight to a stop I hopped off running to him, “DAD!” I screamed out and we collided.

He smelt like he hasn't showered in days, he felt skinnier and was dirty. I was in between laughing and crying as I hugged him, “Dad, I missed you so much. I was certain you were alive! I just knew you wouldn’t let anything kill you.” I told him blubbering into his chest.

He clutched me close, “I know baby girl I know… where is Jenny? Is she waiting outside the town?” Dad asked holding me to arms length.

My chest squeezed painfully at Jenny’s name, “No… a while ago… we were ambushed and… I couldn’t protect Jenny…’ tears began falling down my face, ‘they came and killed her. I killed all of them but they killed her!” I sobbed covering my face.

He pulled me to his chest and I felt something hit my back. Looking back I smiled seeing knight. He snorted making me pet his jaw, “Dad this is Knight, Knight this is my dad.” I told knight.

Dad reached his hand out to knight with a smile. Knight looked to dad before I saw his jaws jerk open and dad pulled his hand away before it was chomped on by knight.

I was surprised, “I'm sorry, he usually doesn't do that.” I told dad wiping my face and knight neighed hitting his hoof to the ground.

Rubbing his neck I looked at knight, “What is the matter with you? Are you ok?” I asked knight but he seemed just to get antsier.

He suddenly bucked making me step back so I didn't get kicked and turned running away out of the town. My bags fell onto the ground and I just stared dumbfounded… I watched as he disappeared down the road.

Dad grabbed my bags, “It’s ok honey, you can’t trust animals anyway.” He told me and wrapped an arm around my waist.

Slowly I let my dad pull me after him, “So… why are you in this town? Where were you when the beasts attacked our village?” I asked softly.

He sighed softly rubbing the back of his neck, “In a town next over. I go there some times to keep up with the outside world. I didn't tell you because I was afraid you might follow me.” He said as he led me around people and into a building.

“Ok… when did you get back.” I questioned looking at him.

He was looking at the ground, “A day later… most of the people were dead and some were missing. I had guessed you guys got away since I didn't see your bodies and the escape tunnel was used.” He told me but never took his eyes away from the ground.

“Yah, we got to the hideout and stayed there a day or so before they caught up. After that we ran and found a town. Did you know what those beasts are doing to humans out here? They are acting as if we are slaves, Dad. I just came from a town where there were nothing but werewolves and a man was selling humans… Is that really how this world is? Why didn't we know? I grew up in those walls and never knew what was out there. Why didn't you tell me?” I had all of these questioned and a part of me felt betrayed. He went to the outside world… he had to know about the slaves, he had to know about everything… but yet he didn't tell anyone.

At this time I noticed we had entered a room. Dad went and set my stuff by the desk as I looked around.

“I didn't want to frighten the village.’ I heard dad say from his desk, he was shuffling about, ‘they would have gotten scared and I was scared for the safety of you girls.”

Looking along the walls I noticed some cuffs and chains bunched up against the wall. I was confused. For some reason I got some goose bumps…

“I'm going to go looking for knight.” I told him and headed straight for the door.

“Nikki.”

Turning to my dad at the sound of my name only allowed me to see and not to react to what was happening. His hand came down and I felt a pain in my neck.

He jerked his hand back making me stumble backwards in fright as I cradled my injured neck, “What the hell!” I yelled scared and confused.

Looking to his hand I found a syringe with some liquid dripping off the tip of the sharp needle. I stared at him horrified, “Dad… what-why.” I was confused and my heart was thudding like crazy.

Suddenly my dad’s expression changed and it turned to the one of anger and disgust.

“Do not call me your father you disgusting bastard of a child.” He spat storming towards me.

My body seemed to be frozen and my legs wobbled before collapsing. I fell onto my butt still clutching my neck and staring up at him.

He hovered over me, “I’m not your father; your whore of a mother bedded a man she met in the woods. Jenny is my only daughter and you got her killed.”

He lifted his boot up and it swung directly for my face. I felt a pain in my nose and my head jerked back hitting something making everything go black.

***

My eye lids felt heavy like they weighed a ton but I was starting to wake up. I was aware of my body being lifted and held like a sack of potatoes.

I was heaved up before dropping onto something hard making me groans in pain. Slowly blinking I saw the sideways view of a bald buff man who was picking up people and shoving them towards me. I grunted when I was kicked as they stumbled over me but my body was too asleep to move.

Trying to wake up more I saw a familiar blurry view.

“Dad!” I cried out but saw he had a needle making me panicked I didn't want to go back to sleep.

“N-n-” I tried to argue and get away from him but I couldn't.

He glared disgusted at me as he grabbed my arm and stabbed it into me roughly. He pushed the liquid in before pulling the needle out and glared at me.

“I hope you die for what you did to my daughter.” He spat then turned and left.

Tears fell down my face and I couldn't make any move to wipe them. My dad… well that man who I thought was my dad wasn’t my dad… maybe that is why he always treated Jenny like his little princess and me like a maid.

My mouth stayed shut but tears flowed endlessly. I didn't care that Jenny wasn’t my full sister I still cared dearly for her and he blames me for her death. My dad, the man I thought would always protect me just left me…

My brain was trying to make sense of what was happening. The bald man pushed me back more before pulling up the back of the carriage and swung the barred gates closed… this carriage looks familiar…

“Get comfy; it is a 5 days journey.” The man growled out and stomped away.

As everything began to get hazy I felt the carriage began to move. My dad… he sold me to slave traders… he had to… I know he had to.

***

I awoke partially to the carriage stopping but my body was still numb. I tried moving but I could only get my fingers and toes to move.

Turning my head with as much energy as I could muster I found more than half the people were gone… the only people left were actual healthy looking ones but I looked the healthiest.

My eyes shut again taking me away to lands unknown.
