Chapter 3
Dustin
"Wow, look at the greaser coming down the stairs," Mom said when she saw me walk down the stairs. "I'm guessing the dance is a 50's theme?"
"It is," I said. "I thought they would have done something like Winter Wonderland since it is the winter dance, so I'm actually glad they're switching things up this year. What time is it?"
"A bit after six-forty-five," she said.
"Then I should be going," I said. "I told Soph I would be at her house to pick her up before six-fifty. I'll be back before two in the morning."
"Dustin," Mom said in a warning tone.
"I'm kidding," I said. "The dance ends at eleven, so I should be back at eleven-thirty at the latest. Unless I'm too tired. In that case, I'll crash at Soph's house, but I'll make sure I tell you."
"Alright, that's fine with me," Mom said before calling for Felicity. "Filly! You want to say goodbye to your brother?!"
Felicity came running out of the living room and to where we were standing before she through her arms around me. "Bye, Dustin."
"Bye, Filly," I said.
I then left the house and headed to my car. Most of the time, I would rather walk places, especially to school, but the dance was going to be ending late at night, and it was winter, so it would be too cold for Sophronia and I to walk home at night.
When I got to Sophronia's house, I got out of my car and knocked on the front door. Her little brother, Raymond, was the one who answered it. He gave me a huge smile. "Hi, Dustin!" he said.
I smiled back. He was one of the sweetest boys ever, and it was a huge bonus that he loved me a lot. He was always asking his sister when I was going to come over and sometimes when I did, he always wanted to play video games with me.
I think I scored myself major boyfriend points.
"Hi, Raymond," I said. "Can you get Sophronia, please?"
"Okay," he said, keeping the door opened a crack before going to get his sister.
Soon enough, the door opened wider again and Sophronia was standing there, wearing a blue 50's dress with white polka dots and a thick red belt with a silver clasp. Like always, she looked as beautiful as ever.
"You look gorgeous," I said.
Sophronia smiled her beautiful smile. "Thank you. And you look very handsome."
"Thank you," I said before pulling her into a hug. "I can actually go to school dances again now that I'm dating you."
"Let me guess, Brooke never wanted to go," Sophronia asked and I nodded. "She was probably too busy with Asher the nights of the dances."
"I wouldn't doubt that," I said. "Come on, let's get going."
Sophronia and I got into the car, and I drove to the school for the dance, making sure we both had our tickets first. I was honestly a bit excited to go to the school dance. It was going to be the last winter dance of my high school life, and there was nobody better to spend it with than my girlfriend.
Maybe my best friend, though...
Just kidding. My best friend hated school dances and when Brooke refused to go to one with me, Blake and I normally spent the night at the local basketball hoop or playing video games.
