Chapter 30
Sophronia
Ally and Jacob were being transferred to another prison so if they happened to break out, they wouldn't come here. Not that they would be able to. The prison they were being sent to had a lot more enforcement and nobody has ever escaped from there.
It was really great finally being able to move on from them and not live our lives in fear.
There were actually some positive outcomes from the whole experience. Dustin's dad decided to move back into town and requesting his work to transfer him to a closer office. He wanted to be more involved in his children's lives after what happened, because he realized he could lose them at any given time and he did not want that at all.
I didn't even have to try getting Dustin to give his dad a chance. After his dad moved back into town, Dustin decided his dad really wanted to be involved. He wasn't going to have his hopes to high to start off with, but at least he would be giving his dad a chance.
To make things even better, the first thing Dustin's dad asked for when he moved down here was to see the painting Dustin had entered and won in the art show; the one his dad promised he would come down to see Dustin being awarded, but he never did.
He even took some time off of work to spend with both Dustin and Felicity to get to know them better after missing out on the last few years of their lives.
People were constantly asking us about the kidnapping and if we were okay, and it was honestly getting a bit annoying. We kept giving them the same answer, and it didn't even look like we were struggling with it because really, we weren't. Nothing bad happened while we were in that warehouse, and at least both Dustin and I weren't in a coma this time.
The only time it wasn't annoying was when our family and friends asked, because they only asked one time and that was when the police brought us back.
Our manager asking also wasn't annoying since he wanted to make sure we were still up to performing. We were, so right now, we were setting up for today's performances.
It was going to be a special one since all our family and friends were coming by to watch. Astrid and Ella were the only two that actually watched us perform once, but that was because they were the only ones not busy. This time, our parents made sure to take tonight off so they could come by to watch. Blake was even coming down to watch.
Needless to say, Dustin and I had been practicing really hard for these performances because we really wanted our friends and family to like it. Dustin especially wanted it to be really good since even his dad was coming.
At least, Dustin hoped he would, but he told me he wasn't getting his hopes up.
I had a feeling his dad actually was going to show up. He had been trying hard for these past few days to make things up to both Dustin and Felicity, and now that he lived in the town it was easier for him to try.
While Dustin was plugging his guitar into the amplifier, I saw as everyone walked inside the cafe. And by everyone, I do mean everyone, Dustin's dad included.
"I told you he was going to show up," I said.
Dustin looked over his shoulder to watch everyone walk in, a small smile appearing on his face. "Wow, he actually did show up," he said.
"He's trying," I said. "He really is."
"I know," Dustin said. "It's nice for him to actually try. For once in my life, I can actually have hope when it comes to him."
I smiled softly at that before Dustin made sure the amplifier was loud enough for his guitar. Afterwards, we sat on the stools and turned on the microphones right as it was time for us to perform. "Hello, everyone," Dustin said. He was always the one doing the introducing because he had a lot more charisma than I did. "My name is Dustin, and this is the ever-so beautiful Sophronia." That, of course, made me smile. "We will be performing a few songs for you today, and we really hope you like it."
Dustin started with a guitar intro before he started singing half of the first verse, then I soon joined in. While we were singing together, we looked over at each other and smiled. Meeting him had to be the best thing that ever happened to me. He really was my soulmate, and out of all the people I could have been bonded to, I was glad it was him.
*************And that's the end of this book! Sorry for the long wait between chapter 19 and 20. I honestly forgot to post it since I already finished this book, so it wasn't on my mind.
Sophronia and Dustin probably won't get another book, as much as I love them. But during July, I will be writing the sequel to Rising to the Top and this time, I will be posting the chapters in bunches of five as I write them instead of waiting for me to finish the book.
Thank you so much for reading my book!
