Chapter 27

Dustin

Sophronia and I refused to tell Ally and Jacob exactly how I was able to find Sophronia's family when I didn't know them beforehand. I really wanted to get out of here, but we definitely couldn't tell Ally and Jacob exactly how. We didn't know what would happen if we told them everything, and the best thing to do now was to stay safe.

We were also trying to find a way to escape, but so far, it didn't seem like a possibility. We looked around every inch of the room we were in, but we found nothing.

I didn't even know how long we had been here for, or how long we were going to be here.

Ally came back twice, asking again how I was able to find Sophronia's family. I told her the exact same thing, only adding this time that I asked people who know her family and that someone told me that Ally didn't get along with Sophronia's mom.

She believed everything I said, but she knew that there was something I wasn't telling her, mainly the exact reason why I decided to go looking for them because apparently, me wanting to do so because the police hadn't found anything yet wasn't believable.

There had to be something Sophronia and I could do to leave this place. Part of me wanted us to wait by the door for Ally or Jacob to come in, then quickly run out before they could react, but I had a feeling they were going to be prepared for that. Jacob had a gun when they took Sophronia's family, so no doubt he would be prepared and had it again.

I was sitting on the floor as Sophronia continued looking around the room. I gave up trying to find an exit, but she refused to. She kept telling me there could be something we were missing.

"Our families are probably very worried right now," I said. "This is the second time we've both gone missing."

"Yeah," Sophronia said. "At least we're together this time. That might give them more hope."

"Or it might make them think they'll lose the both of us," I said.

"Why are you so pessimistic at times?" Sophronia asked.

I shrugged. "It depends on the situation and right now, being a pessimist is realistic."

"Whatever you say," Sophronia said.

"Did you find anything yet?" I asked.

Sophronia sighed. "Not yet. I'm certain there is something that can help us escape."

I didn't want to tell her that there probably wasn't anything else, but she had enough hope for the both of us, so I guess that helped.

"Hey, Dustin?" Sophronia said.

I was about to reply, but I didn't because the door opened again, so Sophronia quickly came and sat down beside me before Ally came into view. Jacob was standing behind her, and I was starting to think he was nothing but her minion.

Ally looked at me. "You, come with me."

"Where?" I asked.

"You think I'm actually going to tell you?" Ally asked.

"It would be very hospitable for you to," I said. As pessimistic as I was, once Ally and Jacob came into view, I wasn't able to treat this situation seriously.

Ally narrowed her eyes at me. "I'm putting you in another room," she said. "I don't need you and my niece staying together, especially when you're not telling us everything."

I sighed and stood up. It was best to just do what she said instead of resisting because I was going to end up in another room anyway.

Jacob walked over and grabbed my arm and while he was pulling me outside of the room, I looked at Sophronia and mouthed, "I love you."

Jacob led me into the room beside the one Sophronia was now going to be in alone as Ally closed the door to that room.

"You know the police is going to find you sooner than later," I said as he pushed me into the new room. It looked identical to the other one with nothing but boxes. "They found you before, and they're going to find you again."

"I seriously doubt it," Jacob said. "We've learned from our mistakes and this time, no one is ever going to find you two, so I suggest you do everything we tell you to."

I didn't say anything else as he left the room, slamming the door shut. I may not have any hope in us escaping, but I had a slight amount of hope that the police, or someone, would find us.

Hopefully before Ally and Jacob did anything.

I laid down on my back, staring up at the ceiling. The only bright side of Sophronia and I being in separate rooms was that we would be able to feel if Ally or Jacob hurt the other. If that was a bright side. We wouldn't be able to do anything about it, but if we didn't feel it, that meant the other was okay.

I laid on the ground for a bit longer before getting up and walking around the room. While there was nothing in the other room, there could have been something in this room despite being identical.

I looked around the room, but I didn't find any secret doors or anything, not that I expected there to be some. I didn't even know what to expect to find.

I started looking through the boxes as well. Most of them were empty, but the ones that weren't only had dusty, old items such as vases. No wonder Ally and Jacob chose to keep us here. This was probably abandoned a long time ago.

I sighed, laying back on the floor and staring up at the ceiling. That was going to be my only source of entertainment staying here.

Ally and Jacob better give us food, otherwise I was going to be really hungry. And when I was hungry, they were going to be a lot more scared of me than I was of them right now.

Okay, not really, but I really did need my food if they wanted to keep my sane and calm.

They did, thankfully. Jacob came in the room who knows how many minutes or hours later and gave me a tray of what literally looked like throw up.

"What is this?" I asked.

"Food," he said.

"Okay, but what kind of food?" I asked.

"Oatmeal," he said.

"Oatmeal," I repeated. "Yeah, this looks like vomit. Did you even make it properly?"

"You don't have to eat it if you don't want to," Jacob said before leaving the room.

I sighed, staring at the oatmeal. I picked up the spoon sitting in it and took a tiny bit before being close to spitting it out. First, the look, and now the taste. I was just happy it didn't smell like vomit.
