she spat out the blood pooling in her mouth. "shall we try that again?" a humorless voice spat out. the young winged girl refused to show anything in her blank stare. the sound of skin hitting skin came again as the girl was slapped across the face, hard. again she spat blood and said nothing. its not like she could talk anyways she was dehydrated, but hydrated enough to survive. she refused to brake, frustrating her keeper. "wretched girl, you will brake soon enough." with that final depressing note the door slammed shut leaving her alone once again. the girl looked up and smiled slightly, she had won another miny battle. shaking her head at the thought she prayed her little brother was safe. she knew he would win this even without her, she had faith in him. 'please be safe percy, dont do anything stupid till i get back, if i get back'

percy looked up and looked around, he was so sure he heard his sister telling him to be safe. he looked around his room once more before deciding to take a walk. it was late into the night and everyone was still at the campfire. deciding to ignore everyone, he chose to walk along the beach. it used to be his favorite spot now, it was the gardens at home. how he longed to be there right now laughing with his family. sighing percy sat on the large rock once again. it was sometime before he noticed the goddess to his right. looking over at her he smiled sadly. "beautiful night artemis, can i help with something?" he asked building up his walls around his heart. but no matter how he tries he just cant help but tear them down as well. "i was wondering how you arm is doing, and if your alright. i didnt see you after...." she trailed off leaving percy stunned that she cared for him. "yeah sorry bout that stuff just yeah..... my arms fine, doesnt even hurt." percy said rubbing the back of his neck. he stopped and put his face in his hands and leaned back against the rock. confused artemis walked closer to him "whats wrong percy?" she asked. "everything, my sisters gone, my dad cant find her niether can i, my aunt is trying to kill us all, this isnt my first life, and im in love with someone i shouldnt be." percy spilled artemis was taken back 'who did he love? what did he mean by not his first life?' she thought. "what do you mean?" she asked trying not to be jealous or hurt. "i was killed before and reformed dont have all my memories from before but ik who i am." percy said obviously avoiding what artemis meant. "percy thats not what i meant." she smirked hands on her hips. percy chuckled and looked at her, "i fell for someone along time ago, before i even fell for ....annabeth. i still love her to this day, but im forbidden by the vow she made so long ago to do anything." percy said leaving it as vague as possible, or at least tried to. artemis blushed a light pink and took a few steps closer. "why?" she asked, percy looked away towards the stars looking directy at zoes constilation. "i felt like i had always loved her, like i had know her from before." percy fiddled with the ring around his neck. it was a simple one, something he had always kept hidden. it slowly dawned on artemis why she had respected percy in the first place. she had thought him simaler to her first love who had simply just vanished, they were one in the same. she stared at percy for a long time as he turned to look at her. slowly he sat up and she watched everymovment he made. "artemis, duck" confused she did as she was told. just as she heard the slither of a weapon leaving its sheath, she heard the impact of a body on the ground. turning around she watched as it slowly fell apart turning into chunks of rock and sand. "do i want to know?" she asked looking at it. "no but it means you're in danger now, we have to keep you safe." percy said looking at whats left of the creature. "what do you mean by in danger, aren't us gods always in danger?" percy shook his head at her question. "not from these, once given a target the will relentlessly persue it until the target is destroyed." percy said and grabbing her hand leading her away. artemis knew she should pull away but holding his hand felt nice and familier. she didnt realise they were at the chaos cabin until she heard the door open and slam shut behind her. "percy whats going on? why is she here?" leo called from the kitchen "Eta." was all percy said, all movement stopped as everyone looked towards percy and artemis. nervously artemis shuffled behind percy gripping his hand tighter. "what do we do to protect her?" zoe asked instantly. "for now she'll have to stay here, its the only safe spot and she needs a guard for when she needs to leave. if the rds go down on th cabin she'll need two." percy said looking at each team member. "zoe, bianca you two are her guards. the rest of you need to train the campers harder than before, the romans are coming tomorrow so be prepared for that." "what about the group im training?" bianca asked "im taking over." percy said calmly.
