Standing backstage, I could already feel the nerves building up. The crowd were chanting and cheering and booing for the match before mine; Ryback vs CM Punk. Apart from the crowd's immense noise, all I could hear was my own heart beating hard and heavy in my chest. I'd never experienced nerves like it, yet here I was stood waiting to go out on my debut for WWE. I looked down at my outfit, a black long-sleeved crop top and a pair of green combat trousers and smiled. I'd been dreaming of this since I was a kid.
"Ok, ready?" Someone put their hand on my shoulder and ushered me out, closer to the ramp I was about to run down. I merely mumbled something along the lines of 'I'm fine' before I saw the two opponents from the previous match stagger up the ramp and through the square entrance I was standing next to.
"Ok, here we go, an exciting divas match for you now!" One of the commentators said, "Two women making their debuts to WWE, but only one will come out victorious and have her head held high!" I gulped and attempted to swallow the massive lump in my throat that was only too familiar.
"Introducing, weighing 145 pounds, making her debut from Sacramento, California... It's Frenzy!" A tall, big built female ran past me at speed, roaring and shouting out to the crowd who clapped her as she came on. She jumped over the top rope and stood in the middle of the ring, confidence becoming her, posing and pointing out to the crowd.
"Her opponent is going to have a hard time beating that entrance!" A commentator laughed. "But here we go, weighing in at 125 pounds, making her debut from London, England, please give it up for Lucy!" I took a deep breath in and out and put on my fakest grin, running onto the ramp with my heart beating in my mouth, high-fiving random audience members and cheering, flinging my arms up in the air. I ran up the steps and went into the ring through the second rope jumping and cheering as the cheers got louder. Never before had I experienced anything like this, my adrenaline was pumping and I was ready to fight, after all we both knew the outcome of this fight and had practiced the moves many times.
"The bell will signal the beginning of the match!" A voice echoed as the bell rang. Staring over, I couldn't help but feel intimidated by the sheer size of this woman. Being at a tiny 5ft 5 with dyed blue hair, I was hardly a match to this 5ft 9 woman with fiery red hair and biceps big enough to put half the men to shame. Nevertheless, the show had to go on.
Running at each other, we grabbed the hair of the other person and locked arms, we struggled and staggered around in a circle for a small period of time before Frenzy got the first punch to my stomach before an uppercut to my jaw caused me to stagger backwards.
"You're not ready to face me!" She jeered, only to receive boos from the crowd. I staggered to my feet, pretending to be injured before I ran at this woman, delivering two punches to the stomach and a spinning kick to her head. She fell to the floor quickly and writhed around in pain.
"Come on!" I cheered, getting the crowds approval and hearing cheers and claps. "Get up!"
Frenzy grabbed hold of the ropes to help her up, still a bit unsteady on her feet. I smiled at her and winked but she put her right foot on the first rope and used it to power over to me, doing a jumping punch that got me in the back of the head. I fell backwards and clung onto the ropes. Frenzy then ran at me delivering a kick to the stomach before she grabbed me by the waist and threw me behind her in a move she had called 'The Attack'. I remained on the floor, holding my back as she stormed over and released a few punches and kicks to my body as i lay there. She grabbed my leg and the referee began to count.
"1... 2..." I jolted and the referee stopped, holding up two fingers as he moved away from us.
"Noone is a match for Frenzy!" She called out, flexing her muscular arms to the crowd. I edged slightly closer to her before kicking her in the leg, causing her to fall to her knees. Jumping up, I quickly put my arm around her neck and slammed her forwards causing a sea of gasps and cheers from the crowd. Frenzy snarled as she got up, running forwards and spearing me into the corner pole of the ring, but I could feel something wasn't right. Wiping the side of my face with my hand I noticed blood. Debut fight, debut injury! I thought to myself as I carried on like rehearsed. After a few more grapples and signature moves, I had Frenzy laying on the ring, close to the corner. I climbed up with the last strength I had, touched my thumbs to my fingers to form a snakes head with each hand, lifted them above my head and hissed before I jumped from the top rope and elbowed Frenzy in the head, knocking her out. I grabbed her leg with my arm and the referee slid in front of us.
"1... 2... 3..." The bell rang twice to signify the end of the match and the referee grabbed my arm as I stood up.
"And your winner here tonight, showing us tremendous ability in her debut match is Lucy!" The crowd were behind me chanting my name and clapping. I wiped my head again, feeling blood trickling down my face but carried on my act. My entrance music began to play; as I walked up the ramp high-fiving everyone with my non-bloodied hand. As soon as I got through the archway and backstage, a medic grabbed me and sat me down on some equipment boxes left neatly to resemble a bench.
"Everything ok?" He questioned me as he put his gloves on and examined my head. It didn't even hurt, i'm sure it cant be that bad!
"Yeah, fine. Just feels a bit tingly." I told him honestly. Frenzy ran through the arch and backstage, her eyes scanning the place before they stopped on me.
"I'm sorry!" She half whispered. "I didn't realise the power i put behind the-"
"It's fine!" I cut her off. "It doesn't even hurt!" I gave her a smile and gestured for her to go back to her changing room while i got patched up. "So what's the damage doc?" I said, thinking I was funny.
"A few stitches and you'll be fine!" My eyes widened. Stitches? No way did she hit me that hard! He walked me into the proper medical room, now finished his triaging, and sent me over to another doctor. There was a guy in the room already but I didn't pay much attention to him as I walked in feeling like an idiot.
"Stitches on your debut!" The doctor shook his head. "You must have gone all out!" I gave him a weak grin and looked down as he treated my wound.
"Giving you a run for your money!" I heard the other doctor say to the guy who was sitting with him, who in turn let out a small laugh.
"You're an idiot!" The guy said back quickly with humour in his voice.
"How bad is it?" The other doctor spoke over us to my doctor.
"Worse than his but in a better place!" He said with a grin. I sat confused over the cryptic, secretive conversation these guys were having with each other. I waited a little longer, gritting my teeth through the awful stinging sensation I kept feeling above my eyebrow.
"You're lucky, that should heal quickly... Umm... Sorry, what is your name?" The other doctor said.
"Lucy." I said quickly, unsure as to whether I could move my head to acknowledge him.
"Ah see Roman? A girl that whinges less than you when she's being treated." The guy, who I now know to be called Roman, threw a playful punch at the doctor and laughed. I let out a small smile.
"All done here, Lucy!" My doctor exclaimed happily, cleaning everything away. "Lets not make a habit of it!" I stood up and shook the doctor's hand, shaking my head in the hope I could keep true to my word and not get injured each time I fought.
"I'll try!" I said happily, "Thank you, and goodbye!" I said as I exited the medical room. "Bye Roman." I said quickly as I left, making my way back to my dressing room.
