Clint Barton
Thursday
Clint walked into the meeting room, the rest of the Avengers filing in behind him. They sat around the table, silence lingering in the room. Clint sank into his chair, sulking at his failed attempt at defeating Havoc."So clearly we need a new approach at capturing Havoc." Steve broke the silence, hands folded neatly on the table, and avoiding Clints glare. "Brute force isn't exactly working."
"You're just realizing that now?" muttered Natasha.
Steve glanced at her, lips curved downward in a slight frown, before facing the rest of them. "Anyway, we need to try something else. Anybody have any suggestions?"
Clint watcched the conversation silently, eyes flickering between whoever was giving out a suggestion at the time. The archer was still frustrated that he hadn't waited for her to get her coffee so he could learn her name. Maybe if he had, they'd be on the road right now, tracking her down so they could take her into custody.
"Maybe Wanda could work her brain voodoo on Havoc and trick her into-"
"It won't work." Wanda cut Tony off immediately.
"What?" Sam's eyebrows knit together. "Why not?"
All eyes turned to Wanda as she explained. "Well you see, like myself, Havoc is a telepath. She has a barrier around her mind that makes her thoughts practically impenetrable to other telepaths. It could take months, or even years, to see into her mind unless she allowed me to, which is highly unlikely." she finished, folding her hands in her lap.
"Well shit." Muttered Clint, glaring at the table.
"Just- everyone try and think of something that could work, all ideas are good ones." Said Steve, as usual trying to be the voice of reason.
"I beg to differ," scoffed Tony. "Someone's idea could be to blow her up. I doubt that would be very helpful."
Steve met the response with a glare, unamused by his teammate's antics. He opened his mouth to respond, but Vision's voice stopped him.
"Perhaps I could try leading the next attempt." Said the android. "As someone who was only recently created, I have less of a reason to see her as a rival, allowing me to have a more...intellectual conversation with her."
"Are you saying we aren't intellectual enough to converse with her?" Asked Tony incredulously, looking quite offended.
"Not at all." Vision said. "What I'm saying is that your grudge against her will interfere with your ability to communicate with her rationally."
"Oh, so now we're not rational." Tony snarked, and Steve glared at him.
Clint spoke up for the first time. "I think Vision's right." Now the attention was on him. "He'll be able to calculate her moves, plan ahead for what she might do. I vote we give it a go."
Everyone exchanged glances, nodding or shrugging before Steve spoke up. "All in favor of Vision leading the next attempt?" All hands went up. "I guess it's settled then. We'll try again in a few days. Until then, get some rest. Barton, I'll need your report on what happened with Havoc before we arrived at the scene."
Clint sighed, but nodded anyway, remaining seated while everyone other than Steve left the room, chatting amongst themselves. Steve looked at him expectantly, and Clint began to give his report. "She was at Starbucks, in line for coffee when I confronted her. She waited for everyone to flee before speaking, which seemed oddly thoughtful for a super villain. Then, she started her usual sarcastic comments, and kicked the gun out of my hand, emptying it of its rounds and tossing it across the floor. We sparred for a while, when she asked where the rest of us were. I told her you were almost here and I was just stalling." Clint paused before saying the next part. "Then she said 'so was I', and pressed the diamond on her ring and some black material shot out of it, transforming her street clothes into her suit."
