So first of all. I think they do work well together because although they were kind of like rivals because pinkie wanted to through rainbow dash her party. But rainbow wanted cheese sandwich to do it because of all of his cool materia and junk. But its clear to see that they are pretty much the EXACT same person. I mean. Same bubly personalities that love to joke around and through parties. And make people laugh and smile and what's not. But in the end of the episode they have a connection because both have a sad back story where they were surrounded by grey and gloomy people. Or were basically looked over by all of their peers. Which is why they became party ponies to bring fun to their other wise, boring and grey lives.
So yes, I ship them together. I think it was meant to be. If you see their episode together their pretty much cannon!!
