Percy woke me up by picking me up. He carried me out and took me to the beach. He put me down once we reached the sand. It was chilly but I was still wearing his sweatshirt. We stepped in the water and swam to the bottom. We created an air bubble together. We sat and he took my hands. "Abby, Jacob passed away last night" he said softly. I didn't know what was happening. I started to shake. It was like when I had the panic attack. I was breathing quickly. Percy pulled me onto his lap and rubbed my hair. I didn't cry. Percy just french braided my hair. I didn't believe it. I would not believe it. Jacob was just sitting at the big house in his bed. Ready for me to come and say good morning.
Percy finished my braids and I realized. The Jacob wasn't there. He would not be there. Who was going to protect me. Who was I going to get coffee with. Who was I going to sing with. I panicked. I couldn't stop. Percy tried to speak to me but I couldn't. It was like when I was yelled at and i would no longer hear them and it was quiet. But I still couldn't talk. Since I knew ASL I signed. "Abby I can read sign language but can you please talk it would make it a lot easier." Percy said "Let's go to Chiron. He want to um talk"
We arrived at the big house and Chiron told me to sit down. I did. "Abby", Chiron started "Jacob left you everything he had his mom left him much like you and his father well is a god. He put in his will that you were his rock as he was to you equally. This includes all of his dance shoes and his bunny Ren" I nodded. "Abby are you okay?" He said. I thought for a moment then shook my head. I signed 'do you know ASL'. "Yep" ' 'Well I just can't talk. I have selective mutism but it has never been this severe' 'Don't worry Abby'
We left and I went directly to the Apollo cabin to get the stuff from his will. I still don't believe he is gone. I step into the cabin and see no one is here but Ren who is hopping around sniffing. I picked him up and gathered his things. I walked over to Jacobs bunk and sat down. I got his dance shoes and opened his trunk I found my favorite of his sweatshirts it was blue, my favorite color. I got that and stole some of his pj pants and a blanket too. Percy came and knocked on the door. I let him in and he hugged me. I finally had taken it in I cried. And I cried hard.
Percy sat down with me and signed 'how are you holding up?' 'Ok ish' 'Chiron found this he wanted me to give it to you it's his journal he found it under his pillow at the infirmary'
I sat up and took it from him and put it with my things to take home. 'Can we go home?' "Sure"
I was on Percy's back and we walked BUT up camp half blood hill with Ren hopping on his leash. His long grey lop ears flopping around. We got in the car and I fell asleep petting Ren's long ears.
