Living the life of the candy man was tiring for Wonka as he had grown to old. Through Charlie he saw a younger version of himself, making something out of nothing. He dressed in disguise as the tramp convincing Charlie to buy a Wonka bar, with full knowledge that he'd get the final ticket.
