A man with frost like skin and blond hair flew over to Bella, throwing her into a mirrored-pillar. Her head cracked the glass. She groaned.
"Beautiful. Very visually dynamic." The man said, recording her. Bella struggled to get up. "I chose my stage well." Evil laced his words.
He grabbed Bella's wrist, gawking at it as if he hadn't eaten in years. His eyes were black with an aggressive lust. He snapped his hand on her shin, Bella screamed.
"No!" I yelled, but he continued to hurt her as if I wasn't there.
Edward plowed the mystery man, ripping him from Bella. The blond landed and dove after Edward. He hoisted Edward against the wall by his neck. He said something, but wasn't audible. Edward's head slammed into the mirror. Glass scattered the floor.
"Stop!" I ran, but stopped when Edward drew back his leg, kicking the man with full force into the air. Ducking, the man soared past, shattering a mirror as they smacked the ground.
Edward ran to Bella, cradling her in his arms. "I'm sorry."
He jumped, trying to leave, but was slammed down by the mystery man. Bella rolled into the glass. Edward was thrown into a window.
Bella ripped a shard of glass from her thigh, gasping in pain. The mystery man walked over to her, kneeling down by her side. He took her arm and glanced at Edward. His teeth sunk into Bella's flesh. Edward pushed the man off Bella, the force from the tackle made them slide, breaking the wooden floor.
I rushed to Bella and kneeled beside her. She started convulsing. "Bella, it's okay." I reached for her wrist, but my hand went through her. Then her shoulder, but I fell to my hands and knees. "Bella?"
Edward and the man were fighting. Bella was groaning in pain.
"Bella...Bella!" I cried.~
"Lillian!"
I sat up. My room surrounded me, blankets toasted my skin. Charlie sat at my side.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah. I'm fine." A lie. Looking past him to the window, it was still dark.
"Okay." He sat for a moment tapping his hands on his lap. "Goodnight." He pat my shoulder and left.
I flopped my back on the bed and sighed. It was just a nightmare.
Through the window, the tops of the trees barely connected with the sky. Stars twinkled next to the bright full moon. The forest tried its hardest to reel me in. I closed my eyes trying to relax.~
It was the next day. Last night, I fell asleep—thankfully—not having another nightmare. Although my nightmare didn't seem ordinary, it felt like it actually happened.
"Listen buddy, I can control myself unlike someone who can't stand the smell of blood." Jacob's voice played in my mind. I don't know why he said that to Edward. Why couldn't Edward stand the smell of blood? Since when did blood have a scent?
"Hey, Bella." I called for her.
"I'm in my room!" She yelled to me. Sure enough, she sat at her desk. A red book sat in front of her.
"What book is that?" I pointed at the hard cover.
"Oh, it's um, nothing." She said. I narrowed my eyes skeptically. I knew she was lying because when I walked in she slammed it shut.
She sighed, curling into herself. "It's about the legends." I looked at her wrist. Images from my nightmare flashed in my head.
"You were bit?"
She watched closely as I took her wrist in my hand. My finger grazed over her scar.
"How do you know?" She jerked her arm away. Her left hand covered it.
"I had a nightmare last night," I said looking down at my feet. "It was about a man who was pale skin and had blonde hair."
"What?" She murmured.
"You didn't fall down the stairs and through a window. The man broke your leg by hitting it, you got thrown to the floor, and a shard of glass got stuck in your leg. He bit you. Edward tried to save you, but he was too late."
She frowned. "Did Jacob tell you this?"
"No, I dreamt it." She didn't look convinced. "I swear."
"You're bluffing." Her voice was soft.
"I won't tell anyone, Bella. I know about Jacob." I assured her.
She dipped her head. "Okay, fine. It's true."
I nod, sucking on my bottom lip. What now?
"Edward's a vampire."
My eyes widened, jaw slacking. A tinge of anger flushed through my veins and the hair on my arms stood with a few goose bumps. I turned around, heading for the door. Sitting on my bed, I looked out to the woods. Relief trickled down my skin.
Why hadn't Jacob said anything about Edward? How did I never notice the scar on Bella's wrist? Are all of the stories my grandfather told me true? Is that why Jacob said that to him? Is that why Bella didn't want me near Jacob, because he's a wolf and Edward is a vampire?
I connected the dots, realizing the legends were true. Jacob was apart of a pack, Bella was dating a vampire, the treaty was—most likely—the only thing keeping Edward and Jacob away from each other.
One question still remained in the back of my mind...what was the real reason my mom sent me to live in Forks?
