Olivia woke up quickly, shooting upwards into a sitting position. She had been having some kind of nightmare - but she couldn't remember it now. Something to do with flashy lights and screaming women.

Oh, well.

She wiped the sleep out of her eyes, and pushed her black hair out of her face. The alarm clock told her that it was 5:43 A.M.

Well, she wouldn't be able to get back to sleep.

She breathed out heavily, then pushed back the pale blue covers and swung her bare legs out of the bed. She stood up, and stretched her arms up above her head.

Olivia was wearing an oversized red shirt, which went to just above her knees. The sleeves were long, and covered her hands, so she had rolled them up to her elbows. Her black hair was getting in her face again, she she quickly flipped her head over, gathered her hair and flipped it back, tying it up in a quick pony tail.

She walked quickly and quietly across the hall, into the bathroom across the hall. Resting her hands on either side of the sink, she looked at herself I'm the mirror.

Her hair was bumpy, but it didn't matter. Her brown eyes were wide and awake-looking, with no dark circles underneath. Her skin was pale, but her cheeks were flushed with red. Turning on the cold water, Olivia sighed, and splashed it at her burning face. It was refreshing, the cool splashing against her face, it lowered the temperature of her cheeks and they turned paler again. The water had fully woken her up, now. She brushed her teeth, and then crept back into her bedroom, not wanting to wake up her parents.

Once she was back in her bedroom, Olivia turned on the light and went straight over to the wardrobe. She slid the red doors to the side, so that she could see her clothes. It was only 5:48 now, but she didn't have anything else to do.

After looking through her clothes, Olivia put on a simple black top and a pair of jeans. You couldn't go wrong with such simple clothes, she thought, as she did the jeans up.

Olivia pulled the band out of her hair, and brushed through it. Her hair grew just below her chest, thin and straight, and naturally jet black. It often fell forwards into her face, so she had to push it back, but she preferred to wear it down at school.

School.

Olivia hated school.

It seemed as though school hated her, too. In year 1, when she was five, a girl had spilled all of the sharpening a from a pencil over Olivia's head, covering her hair. Olivia had been upset, and the teacher told the other girl off. She was told to help Olivia get everything out of her hair. They had gone into the bathrooms, and whilst they were in there, the sleeve of the girls top got caught in the sink. Olivia had no idea what had happened, but the girl had insisted that she had done it, and Olivia got told off.

At least her hair was free of pencil-sharpenings for the rest of the day.

Weird things like that often happened around Olivia. For example, someone had pushed her off of a bench in the playground once, but when he sat down, the bench immediately collapsed under his weight.

Of course, he said it was Olivia's fault.

Those were only some of the reasons that she was now a 'freak' or a 'weirdo'. She was in year six now - almost eleven years old. She would be eleven in two weeks - on April the first. April fools day...

That was torture at school.

But, Olivia didn't want to think about what would happen this year. She tried so hard to block out the memories of previous birthdays.

She lay in bed until half past six, reading a book. Then, she went downstairs and poured herself a quick bowl of cornflakes and milk. Once she had eaten it, she went back upstairs to make sure she had everything for school, before picking up her boom again and reading some more, until eight o'clock.

Then, she pulled her leather jacket over her bare arms, picked up her bag, and left for school. Her parents were still asleep - they usually were.

Olivia got to the gates, and bolted as quickly as she could into her classroom. She sat in the back corner, hidden away as much as possible from the others.
