Chapter Eleven
From here, I could see and hear everything. Just hiding behind a wall was the perfect idea for 'spying' on the discussion between the high school pig and Star.
After promising she'd go in and talk to James in person, Star kicked her plan into action straightaway. There was no point in wasting precious time. If we let the clock keep ticking, I really would be viral by the morning.
So like a little stalker, I ducked behind the corner to overhear Star's conversation with my wicked roommate. She was making sure she was loud enough for me to hear her, thank goodness.
I peeked ever so slightly around the edge of the wall so I could see what was going on, watching as the girl with the blonde hair swished her hips over to James. He was grinning to himself, scrolling down his phone, a coffee in hand at the edge of the cafe. I could tell he was just here so he could share the news with the world without me shoving in to stop him, but unfortunately, the Ken doll was really a bit of a stereotypical character. Sure, he was fit, and well-built, and a total ladies' man, but of course when it came to brains he was lacking.
A lot.
Star brushed her hair out of her face to reveal her most flirtatious smile. I was lucky to have such a pretty girl to do my bidding- without her, I would have to be some loser dressing up in a wig and imitating a chick for James to 'fall in love with'. And that probably would have spread even faster than the skinhead picture. At the mere thought of it, I tugged my beanie down over my ears, feeling suddenly self-concious.
"Hey, James." Star's voice was loud, and I could hear her perfectly. He looked up from his phone and almost instantly clicked on to what was happening; to be honest, I was surprised he was thinking. Even a little.
"Look, if Luca sent you here, you can buzz off. I'm not taking it down. That doofus gets what he deserves."
What did I ever do to you, James?
Star sighed. Even that was amplified. "He never did anything like this to you. Come on, he only just started at this school. I don't know you all that well, but I know you're not a complete douchebag. Just take the picture down."
"It was his decision to shave that gay message into his head," James snapped, and I subconciously clenched my fists. "I was just the one who decided other people deserved to know how much of a dick he is."
"But seriously, why do you think he's a dick? He never did anything to you," she repeated. Breathing in a strange sort of heavy, airy way. She sounded worn out now that he'd caught on.
"He thinks he's so much better than me," he retorted.
"Obviously he is, if you're going to stoop so low as to do something so cruel as this," Star replied snappily. She may have been letting her act fall a little, but I was silently thanking God that she had a comeback for everything. I saw James clench his jaw, and knew she'd gotten to him.
"He's a freaking nerd."
"You think people don't know that already?"
Oh. Gee, thanks, Star.
"Of course they do. You're, like, his only friend. It's pathetic," James said with a roll of his eyes. He crossed his arms, looking fed up with her.
"Exactly. You don't need to make all of this worse for him," she replied almost pleadingly, like I was some sort of social retard. If these had been normal circumstances, I would have popped out and protested, but right now I was so desperate I needed any help I could get. And this looked like it could work, because ever so slightly, my roommate's face scrunched up in thought.
