It had been a week since the dance. Things had pretty much returned to normal, except every once in a while, Newt would kiss her in secret. She had fallen madly in love with Newt; there was no doubt about it. But everything went wrong.
"I can't believe you actually talked me into riding on that hippogriff again!" Tina accused playfully. Newt chuckled softly. "I didn't talk you into anything. I just asked," he said. "I hope you realize how lucky you are. If you weren't so adorable, I'd have murdered you by now," Tina said, grinning. Newt laughed as he pulled her in. Their lips were about to touch when an explosion was heard in the distance, causing Newt to jerk his head in the direction of the sound.
A tree that was far of in the distance had burst into flames. Mrs. Scamander burst into the kitchen, dragging a terrified Caoimhe behind her. Theseus and Alice entered, faces tense. "It's Grindewald. He's escaped!" Mr. Scamander said. He began to rumage through the cupboards, looking for something. "He wants revenge on Newt for getting him arrested," Theseus said. Tina felt Newt tense a little. "Alice listen to me." Alice looked at Mrs. Scamander. "You need to apperate Tina, Caoimhe, Theseus, and Newt to your place in Paris. My husband and I will stay behind to try and fight him off. I will write to you if we are okay." Mrs. Scamander's voice was calm, but had a sense of urgency to it. Theseus swept up Caoimhe in his arms. Alice grabbed a bag that Mr. Scamander had given her. Newt grabbed his case. Mrs. Scamander embraced her children before turning to embrace Tina. Tina saw tears in Mrs. Scamander's eyes as she pulled away. "Take good care of Newt for me, okay?" Her voice trembled with sadness. Tina nodded, fighting back tears of her own. She got one last glimpse at Mr. and Mrs. Scamander's kind, loving faces before Alice apparated them away.
Newt caught Tina before she could fall backwards from shock. Tears began to form as she thought of Newt's parents. They had treated her like she was a part of the family. It made her feel at home for once. Was that the last time she would ever see them? Tina choked, and Newt pulled her into a hug. Theseus was holding Caoimhe, fighting back tears as he comforted Caoimhe and was comforted by Alice. She looked up at Newt. A single tear was sliding down his cheek, but he quickly wiped it away, attempting to be strong for Tina. She inhaled his scent, trying to pull herself back together. He was so warm. His lips pressed against the top of her head. Finally, Theseus stood, holding a crying Caoimhe, and said in a hoarse voice, "Lead the way, Alice." Newt broke away, and Tina felt cold when he pulled back. He laced his fingers through hers again, following Alice and Theseus past a couple trees before a small house appeared. "I come here every once and awhile for a vacation. This was where Theseus and I would live after we got married," Alice explained, pulling out a key and unlocking the door to the house.
Theseus carried Caoimhe to a couch and sat on it, cradling Caoimhe and singing softly to her. "Just close your eyes..." Tina heard Theseus sing. Caoimhe appeared to be calming down a bit, her breathing becoming more collected and even. Alice started a fire in the fireplace, and Newt sat on a different couch, allowing Tina to lay her head in his lap. He hummed along to Theseus's song, stroking her hair. His actions were oddly comforting. She felt herself drifting off to sleep.
"Poor Caoimhe," Alice said softly. Tina continued to pretend to be asleep, listening. Theseus stopped singing, which caused Newt to stop humming. "I care about her, Alice. Seeing her in pain like this..." Theseus cut himself off, looking down at Caoimhe, who was fast asleep with tears streaming down her face. Theseus kissed her forehead, wiping away her tears. "That's one of the reasons I love you, Theseus. You are very protective over the ones you love." Alice kissed his cheek gently. "Newt, what exactly did you see in Tina?" Theseus asked, sounding desperate for a change of subject. "I'm not sure. There is just something about her that makes her special," Newt replied softly. "If Tina were to move on from you, and fall in love with someone else, what would you do?" Alice asked. Tina was horrified at the thought. Moving on from someone like Newt? "I would let her go," Newt replied softly. Tina was shocked. She continued to pretend to be asleep. "You wouldn't kill the person she fell in love with?" Alice asked, also sounding confused. "Of course not. I want Tina to be happy. I could never hurt her like that," Newt said. He took another deep breath. "I think that she might move on. I don't deserve her. I can't offer her what so many other men could. I feel like a taker when I'm around her. I feel like she is just giving, and I am offering nothing in return. Tina might be better off with someone else." "Don't be stupid, Newt. Get it through your head. Tina loves you, and she will never move on. Ever." Alice's silk voice was firm. Newt began to hum again, which allowed Tina to finally drift off to sleep.
