she left me without a goodbye
and I didn't even know why
i'm not sure if it's pain searing
             or just ignorance triggering

in her lonely absence, I found,
a ball of vigour lying 'round
our living room inside a box,
pulling hard at one of my socks

it had the same blue eyes like her
but encircling them were grey fur
with tiny paws at the box's brink
and a strange collar coloured pink

in my pure joy and excitement,
my knees to the floor have bent
cupping its fragile body in mine,
my mouth curved in an upward line

"his name's Retro," my sister said.
she kneeled and gently stroked his head
we laughed a little bit wobbly,
"He will be your bestest buddy."

funny how this ball of fur
                    filled up the hollow
                    feeling i have been keeping
                    for so long.

                                        he's my best bud.
                                        stillis.
