Chapter 3-
Three simple rules that are impossible to follow
"So what's your name?" Jasmin asked over-excitidly. Mackenzie wanted to scream. She had been standed with the girls a matter of minutes yet she was already feeling smothered in fakeness. It was strange, every aspect of it. Why would they want Mackenzie to be part of their crew? Since when do you invite someone to join your group without knowing their name? This new school was weird. "Mackenzie," She stated warily. Truth was she wasn't sure how to fit in with tem or even if she wanted to but she figured she better. She figured Maddie would do that. "Mackenzie? That's too long! We will call you Kenz," Casey stated. Mackenzie flinched at the old nickname. That's what Maddie called her and after that day she swore no one would ever call her that again. But Casey's was so confident and popular Mackenzie was too scared to say anything. "That means we are on nickname basis," Taylor squealed. Casey rolled her eyes and Jasmin immediately copied. Mackenzie seriously wished Jasmin would grow a back bone and be her own person because she was already annoying her. "Suppose it does," Casey said blandly, "It's Case, Jas and Tay." Mackenzie couldn't help but think of predictable those nicknames were but she simply nodded. Casey or 'Case' began looking Mackenzie up and down. "Cute outfit!" She exclaimed a little too nicely. "Thanks?" Mackenzie replied slightly confused. Casey grinned and hooked her arm onto Mackenzies. "Me and you are going to be the best of friends Kenz! I can tell all ready," she told her leading her along the corridor. Mackenzie felt a strange pang of happiness, it felt good to have a friend. Mackenzies seemed to feel more and more lonely each day and she figured Casey couldn't be that bad right? "Just as long as you keep your hands of Carter, do as I say and maybe loose a little weight here and there," Casey's voice was sweet contrasting the words she just said. There was something about Casey that made Mackenzie want to please her despite her obvious mean side. Surely doing as she says would be easy, and a few extra work outs couldn't hurt what Mackenzie felt was her already healthy weight but who was Carter? And could Mackenzie really resist?
"So this is your first class, math, I have bio so I guess this is bye," Casey grinned at Mackenzie. Mackenzie lifted her hand to wave her off but Casey grabbed both her hands and air kissed Mackenzie making an incredibly irritating 'mwah' noise. Mackenzie figured it was their stupid little cliquey handshake. It reminded her too much of her sister and her ex-best friend Paige's signature pose. She wondered if Paige missed always taking their signature picture together. She doubted it, not after what happened. The loud school bell rang through Mackenzies head and she desperately tried to find the right seat. It was important for her to find the perfect seat, once you were in it you were almost certainly stuck in it for a whole year. She stayed clear from the front, she didn't want to be classed as 'nerdy', she made sure she wasn't at the very back either, the last thing she needed was some angry popular kid hating on her. The perfect seat was right in the middle, a double desk in the very centre of the class. It was safe. Mackenzie always liked to play it safe. She set out her stationary on the desk and placed her bag on the chair next to her. "Hm hm," someone cleared their throat, Mackenzie turned around to lock eyes with an extremely good looking boy. His olive skin basically glowed and his curly blonde locks framed his face perfectly. "You wouldn't be able to move your bag would you? There's no seats left," he stated looking at Mackenzie strangely. She quickly blinked and pretending that she wasn't staring at him. She could feel her cheeks heating up. "Sorry," she muttered. The boy sat down as Mackenzie placed her bag underneath her desk. "Don't worry about it, you must be new here. I'm Carter," he grinned at Mackenzie. Mackenzie felt her heart sink straight to her stomach. Not Carter. Three simple rules that's all Casey asked her to follow yet looking at Carter she knew she just wouldn't be able to resist.
