Chapter 1-
First days are always the worst days
Mackenzie Ziegler awkwardly tugged at her pale pink cropped top facing the mirror. It just didn't seem to fit right, she sighed and shook her head at her reflection. She was beautiful with caramel hair and chocolate brown eyes but she didn't see that. She just saw disappointment. That was all she ever seemed to be. She quickly pulled the top over her head and grabbed a baggy light blue one instead. She stared at her reflection again. She was wearing her brown combat boots, plain denim shorts and the top she had just pulled out. Mackenzie couldn't help but realise how beautiful the blue colour was, just like Maddie's eyes. She shivered at the thought. It was her first day at high school and also the first first school day without her. Mackenzie was nervous, she couldn't help but question herself over and over. That was just Mackenzie, she wasn't confident like Maddie.
The warm air hit her like a slap in the face, it was another roasting hot day in California. Mackenzie found herself wondering about Pittsburgh, it would be warm there too but not as warm as it was in her new city. California was perfect, sun all day every day, beautiful beaches, millions of chances to sing and dance but most importantly it wasn't Pittsburgh. It didn't hold the memories like it did, not that Mackenzie minded too much. It was was mainly Melissa. In fact Mackenzie missed Pittsburgh, it was home and always would be. With that on her mind she pulled out her pink iphone and text Nia. She chose Nia as she knew she wouldn't ask too many questions. 'Hey Nia-bear! How is everyone? Sending my love from Cali!' It was simple, no depth. Just how Mackenzie liked it. She could see her new high school approaching, it was a short walk from her house. One of the few attributes which swayed her mom to buy their quiet suburban home in an unusually quiet neighbourhood. Maddie would have hated it, too boring and not enough space to dance but Mackenzie wasn't too sure. There was something soothing about the quiet and plus if she was looking for some chaos she could always head into town, California was always buzzing with people. Mackenzie was snapped out of her thoughts as she approached the dreaded double doors of high school.
Melissa had taken Mackenzie just before the school broke up for summer to meet the principal. He was a middle aged guy with dull grey eyes and deep frown lines across his forehead but apart from that he seemed nice enough. Mackenzie wasn't too bothered about being the new kid, she had the whole summer to settle into their new home but there was a lot of uncertaincy and Mackenzie didn't like uncertaincy. She liked things to stay the same, no change but sadly the past year had been anything but the same for anyone back in her old neighbourhood. Before the summer she had been instructed to go straight to the office and they would send her to the principal who would asign her a buddy to take her round school. Mackenzie couldn't help but see it as a long way for a short cut, however she obeyed all the same. Drama and attention were the last things on her mind for the moment. The short walk to the reception seemed like a lifetime, all eyes were on her, the new kid. She tried to smile but quickly felt extremely awkward and uncomfortable, for a girl who performed on stage every week she wasn't very confident. Mackenzie never really fully shined in solo's anyway, it was always Maddie's thing. Maddie would have took the opportunity of a new school in California by the reins and there was no doubt in Mackenzie's mind she would have been the most popular girl there in at least two weeks. Many people would think Mackenzie was bias to think that considering it was her sister but they didn't know Maddie. "Can I help you?" a small cheery lady asked over enthusiastically. The walk of shame was finally over and she had reached reception. "I'm the new girl, Mackenzie Ziegler" Mackenzie replied politely. Much to Mackenzies amazement the womans smile grew even larger. "You're that girl who was on dance moms aren't you? The one with the amazing big sister?" She exclaimed getting up from her seat. Mackenzie gulped at the mention of Maddie. She nodded meekly, "yeah that's me."
A/N- New story! It's all about Mackenzie and it might be a little sad! Also if anyone would like to make me a cover it would be appreciated and rewarded with dedications, votes etc!
