I had built a little bed alongside Fletcher. We talked into the perpetual night, exchanging life stories. I told him about Alec.
"Sounds like a right wanker to me," He said shortly. "I think you did well by leaving. But your brothers..."
"I know," I cut in harshly. "I try not to think about them too much."
"You're lucky to have family still. You should have brought them with you." I rolled a chunk of concrete around in palm.
"It wasn't an option at the time." "Because you ran away?"
"Yes. I'll go back eventually andexplain-" "Will you? Will you go back?"
I rolled the concrete to him. He propped himself up on one arm and rolled it around in a circle.
"Yes," I told him. Neither of us believed me. "I have to." "What about Alec?"
"I can ignore him."
"You still have feelings for him, don't you?" He inquired curiously. "No." I lied.
He didn't question me further. I found us some old chips from a few apartments over, plus a candle which was a bonus.
"Didn't think I would have another date before I died." He joked. I smacked him on the arm.
"Don't talk like that." I snapped.
"Why not? We both know it's going to happen." I didn't say anything.
"Can I ask you something, Lyla?" He asked seriously. I shook myself out of my morbid reverie.
"Would you date me? Just for the time being?" I blinked in surprise.
"The time being until-"
"Yes," He said, a sad smile on his face. "Would you date me until I die?"
