You tensed your muscles when Liam passed your table without saying anything. Again. You couldn't remember the last time he had said something to you. You couldn't remember the last time he had behaved like the best friend he had always been.
He used to tell you everything. He used to knock on the window of your room in the middle of the night because he had had a bad dream. He used to spent the entire weekend in your living room so the two of you could game together.
You stood up from your seat and turned around. You were done with it. You were done with him all of a sudden avoiding and ignoring you. You were done with him throwing you away like a piece of garbage. "Liam" You crossed your arms over your chest.
Liam stiffened, but he didn't turn around.
"Liam Dunbar! This is not how you treat friends!" You raised your voice. You didn't even care that everyone in this classroom could hear you. You wouldn't even care if the entire school could hear you. "I want to know what I've done to deserve this treatment."
"It's not you..." Liam slowly turned around and he scratched the back of his neck. "I promise, it's nothing you've done, okay?"
"Okay?" You shook your head and frowned your eyebrows. "Okay?" You raised your voice. "Of course it's not okay! Liam, you were, and I actually hope are, my best friend! If it's not me, I at least have the right to know what it is." You stared at him in disbelief and Liam took a deep breath.
He grabbed your arm and pulled you out of the classroom. "Sorry, I can't talk about any of this where everyone can hear us." Liam licked his lips and he kept on walking through the hallway, turning a few corners, before he found an empty classroom.
"Does this have something to do with this whole werewolf crap?" You raised your eyebrows. "I know what you are, I know what the others are. You told me about it." You sat down on one of the tables and Liam took a deep breath while he bent his head to stare at the floor.
"It's..." He opened his mouth to say something, but he didn't finish his sentence. "Look..." He started walking back and forth, making you even more nervous than you already were. "It's not just that I'm a werewolf now." His eyes widened and his chest moved up and down quickly. "It's dangerous! I'm constantly in danger and I'm constantly afraid and I don't want you to end up in this mess because I like you..."
"So, instead you just started avoiding me, thinking that that was somehow a good and smart idea?"
"I thought...I thought that if I'd avoid you..." Liam sighed and he dropped his shoulders. "I tried my best not to feel anything for you. Guess what? I failed!" He shook his head. "I don't want you to get hurt or killed or worse because I'm in love with you!"
You widened your eyes and stared at him for a moment, not knowing what to say. "So, you've been avoiding me because you're in love with me and thought that you'd stop being in love with me when you'd just ignore me so I wouldn't end up hurt, killed or worse?" You curled your lips up into a smile. "Sounds like you, yes." Your smile brightened. "Although, you did really hurt me by doing so, so it didn't really work."
"O..." Liam swallowed and he avoided your glance.
"So, why don't you try something else? Why don't you try asking me out so we can end up together and you can protect me when something happens?"
"Would that...would you want that?"
"Yes, Liam, I'd want that."
"So..." Liam paused for a moment before he looked up at you, a smile on his face. "Would you want to go out with me?"
"Yes, I'd love to."
