You had your hands folded in your lap while your eyes were focussed on the television. Every time you heard a door opening or closing you looked up, only to let out a relieved sigh when you discovered that your parents weren't home yet.
"Is everything okay?" Liam had his arm loosely around your shoulders and stared at you until you looked back. "You don't seem okay."
"No, no, I'm fine..." You curled your lips up into a smile. "It's just..." You took a deep breath. "My parents don't know that you're here and I'm afraid they'll come home early, even though they never do. And I'm terrified they'll get angry when they discover I invited a boy to come over when they were not at home."
Liam grinned and there was a little twinkle in his eyes. "If you want me to go home, I can leave?" He cocked his head and he stuck his tongue between his lips. "I don't want you to do something you don't wanna do." He shrugged his shoulders and you felt your cheeks heating up.
"I wouldn't have invited you if I didn't want you to be here, because I really want you to be here, I swear." You swallowed and took a deep breath. "I mean, at school we're always with other people and I wanted to talk to you alone and..."
"You just wanted to talk to me?" Liam pressed the palms of his hands to your cheeks and his lips lingered above yours. He had kissed you before. He had kissed you in the locker room, long after everyone was already gone. He had kissed you in the toilets, after he had blocked the door with a chair. He had kissed you during lunch, when everyone was too busy with other things to notice.
But somehow it felt different right now, as if the kiss was the beginning and not the end and you were not sure if that felt good, if that was what you wanted, if you were already ready for that, for any of that. "No, but, mostly talking. I like talking to you and I like kissing too, but not without the talking and..." You bent your head to avoid his glance, but your eyes widened and as quickly as you could you looked up again.
"What's wrong?" Liam shook his head and he frowned his eyebrows while he pulled back before his lips had even touched yours.
"What's that in your pants?" Your voice was barely a whisper and you made sure to keep your glance locked with his. You made sure not to look anywhere else. "Please tell me it's not what I think it is."
"I'm sorry..." Liam's face was now redder than red and he shove away from you as far as he could. "I can't help it, okay? It's because..." He wanted to say something else, but you placed your finger on his lips.
"I don't want to know, I don't need to know and my parents for sure don't need to know..." You pouted. "Maybe it's really better if you go home and maybe we should act like this has never ever happened..." You dropped your shoulders and immediately Liam stood up from the couch.
"If you want me to go, I'll go..." He scratched the back of his neck and turned around before you reached for his hand.
"I don't want you to go..." You shook your head. "But if my parents see us..." You held your breath. "I can never see you again and that would be even worse, a lot worse."
