Hey y'all. This is a story I wrote for English class a couple years ago, but overall, I like how it turned out and I'd like some reviews on it. The story is already completed, but I'll try to add a chapter whenever I remember to. Sorry if there's any plot holes or anything, but it's one of the only stories I've ever managed to finish. Also, I'm still working on a title, in case you haven't guessed, do any suggestions would be welcome. If anyone is wondering, I'm a junior in high school and I just turned 17... Um... I'll let you read the story now...

My horse's hooves thunder beneath me as we fly across the plain. Mezzanotte, my pure white stallion with raven black socks, whinnies and I laugh. I slow. Luca, smiling, rides over to me. Becoming serious he says, "Alessandra, you know we have to be cautious. It's getting late and there are soldiers who will mistake us for spies. Let's go home."

I sigh, "Fine brother, but first let's stay to see the sunset. Then I'll go. It's not often we see such clear skies. I want to see this spectacle without walls holding me in."

"Very well, but we go straight home after."

I roll off my horse and lie in the grass to watch the sun set on the horizon. Luca, tense and uneasy, does the same. The sun is a great ball of fire. I pull out my many pins and knots in my hair, releasing it of its tenacious grip. Luca looks over with disapproval. "If anyone sees you like that, words will be raised." he tells me. I shrug. I don't care who sees.

"I can't enjoy a sunset with sharp pins stabbing my head and pulling my hair." He sighs.

The sunset is amazing. It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. The vivid colours blend into a magnificent mural painted across the sky causing me to catch my breath. I have never seen such a sight in my life. Even Luca catches his breath. I don't move until the last rays flash out in a last attempt to capture the vision of perfect beauty in this world. They succeed.

I get up and quickly pull my hair into a braid that falls past my bottom. "Come on. We must hurry. We don't want to get caught." Luca says urgently.

We get onto our horses and begin to ride back home in the dark. "Come on, boy" I urge Mezzanotte on. Suddenly, from behind I hear horses neighing and galloping towards us.

"Guelphs!" my brother mutters. My heart races.

"Come on!" I compel Mezzanotte to move faster. We are at a full gallop now. It is so dark I can't see where we're going. We enter woods and I can barely maneuver through the branches.

Suddenly, in front of us is a high cliff towering over us. We must have been more mixed up than I realized. This landmark is within Guelph territory, our sworn enemies. I look around in the dark, hoping for an escape route. No. We are surrounded by five Fiorentini soldiers. I suddenly realize I have no choice. My brother cannot defend both of us alone. I must reveal my best kept secret to these enemies. I reach under my saddle and pull out my broadsword. Luca does the same. I pull my leg over my horse's neck so I am straddling him. I draw my sword and charge.

So, that was two years before the actual plot. The current time period of the story will start in the next section I post.

I hope y'all enjoyed that part, and if you did, please consider voting...
