Later, after dinner, Luca comes into my room. I open the windows to let in fresh air. I begin to sing. I look out. I see the man in the same spot as earlier. "Luca, who is that man?" I ask, pointing. Luca walks over and looks out.
"That would be Lord Enzo Campitelli." He replies, "He is seeking a bride in Rome because he is not yet married. He has been searching for the past two years. Papa might be considering him as a suitable match for you. I heard him mention Lord Campitelli once when talking of suitors." My jaw drops.
"Truly?" I ask.
"Yes. On the morrow is your birthday, do you know what you want?"
"Yes, I believe so." I reply, "I would like to meet this Lord Campitelli, and get a new saddle for Mezzanotte. Not a side-saddle. A boy's saddle."
"You know you can't ride it in public, so what's the point? And why are you so interested in this Lord?"
"Well, we can sneak out on our horses and a man on a horse attracts more attention than a woman. I would like to meet all suitors before one is chosen so I know the man I marry."
