Briefly edited.

I run my hand through my ponytail and head inside. I kick off my boots in the entry way and then head down the hallway to my room. I go over to the desk table by my bed and grab my cell phone. I flop down onto my bed and go through my contacts to find Kendra's number.

Ever since that night on the baseball field,  we've become very close friends. I roll over onto my stomach as the phone begins to ring in my ear.

"Hello?" Kendra says in my ear.

   "Hey, it's me," I say.

"Oh hey! What's up?" she asks.

"I just really need to talk to you," I say.

"This sounds interestin'. What's wrong?" she asks.

   "Travis kissed me," I blurt.

"Travis Hayes? You mean the boy who has an obvious crush on you?" she asks.

"He does not have a crush on me!"

"You just told me he kissed you."

"Well yeah . . . but he can't just attack my face any time he feels like it!" I tell her.

"You know what, I'm comin' over. We need to talk in person and don't worry, Sarah won't mind none."

"Okay, bye." I say before I hang up the phone and groan out loud.

"What's wrong?" Bailey asks quietly, standing in the doorway.

"Just stupid boys," I say, smiling at her. "Do you mind rooming with Kade tonight? Kendra's coming over."

"Sure," she says, smiling again. I smile back and admire how easy-going she is. She goes over to her side of the room and rummages through her drawers for a few minutes before pulling out a pair of pajamas. She then comes over to give me a quick hug before disappearing around the corner to Kade's room. I make my way down the hallway to the front door to wait on the porch for Kendra.

I sit on the steps and fold my arms over my knees, looking up at the the stars. I then start wondering about what Katie is doing back home. Probably out on a date with another football player.

A few minutes later I see Kendra's car coming up the driveway. She pulls up next to the barn and parks it, getting out. She comes over to the stairs and looks down at me.

"Hey," she says, rubbing the toe of her boot in the dirt.

   "Hey," I respond quietly.

"Are you goin' to sit out here all night?" she asks.

"Maybe. I was looking at the stars," I say, standing up. I wipe off my butt and head inside to the room that Bailey and I share. I go over to the bed and watch as Kendra sits down on Bailey's bed across from me.

"All right. So tell me more about this fantastic kiss!" she says excitedly.

I laugh and shake my head. "Well, we had just got done riding and we were getting the horses untacked and he just grabbed my face and kissed me."

   "Did you like it?"

"No," I respond quickly. She tilts her head to the side and raises her eyebrows. "Okay, I guess a little, but that doesn't mean he can just grab me and attack my face with his lips!"

She looks at me for a couple minutes longer. "You really like him, don't you?" she asks.

"No, I don't," I say. She keeps looking at me and my face begins to turn red.

"I knew it!" she laughs and throws her hands up in the air.

"Sh," I say, trying not to laugh with her.

"So what're you goin' to do about it?" she asks.

   "I don't know, nothing?"

"You have to do something!" she says, standing up to go to her duffel bad she brought with her. She takes out a pair of shorts and tank top and begins to change.

"Well, I don't know what I'm supposed to do," I say, laying down on my back.

"I'd say go for it. I mean, it'd just be a summer fling and he already knows you're leavin' at the end of the summer, so he probably won't get too attached." She shrugs her shoulders. "I don't know, maybe it could turn into somethin' more, but why not have a little fun for the summer?"

"I don't know him that well," I say stubbornly.

"All relationships have to start somewhere," she says simply.

"I'll think about it," I say, rolling over to turn off my lamp.

   "Goodnight Alana," she says.

   "Goodnight Kendra," I respond.
