Everytime I read about the werewolf finding or sensing a mate, I always ached to be told it from "his" point of view. Here it comes...hope you like it...

I was more curious than anything. My father told me that at the very least, this would be a learning experience as a potential High Counselor. I never greeted so many. Colin and I had to split the list of guests to get them settled. I didn't see my beta till right before the opening festivities.

"How's it going?" I asked him as he straightened his suit. His long hair was slicked back into a ponytail.

"It's...going," Cole murmured, his baritone voice resembling more of a growl at the moment. "Things went okay, but that damned female alpha!"

"What?"

"I had to change some rooms around because she wanted to be in a room in the house overlooking where her people were in the woods!"

"She sounds...matronly?" I laughed as I checked out my suit one more time.  I was in all black. I liked the look. Everytime I put on a white shirt, I felt like a banker or something.

"She sounds like a b--" Cole took a deep breath, shaking his head. "It doesn't matter. She'll be gone in three days."

"She may lose quite a few of her women."

"With all the single wolves, she may lose them all!" He laughed. "Goddess, that would be priceless."

"Time will tell," I shrugged. "Well, better get down to dinner."

The minute I came to the top of the staircase, it hit me: a scent. It was like no other. It was...absolutely intoxicating. It was a trace, but I picked it up. My heart began to pound, and I felt hot all of a sudden. I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply, groaning softly. I felt so...hungry...

"Ian?"

I turned to look at Cole.

Cole's eyes widened. "Oh, no...or oh, yes?"

"What?"

"Your eyes have turned," Cole frowned. "You just caught your mate's scent."

"Dear Goddess, that's what it is?" I felt like I was going to burst out of my clothes, like they were too tight. I was about to loosen my tie.

"How about you just let me deal with guests?" Colin suggested. "I haven't caught a whiff of my mate if she's here, so I'm in better control right now. I'll get your mom to help out. How about you...go hunting?" He saw that I was hesitating. I suddenly had a huge conflict of interest. "You will be distracted till you find her, Ian. Go."

"I can't believe I'm doing this," I said to myself. I closed my eyes, and regained control of my eyes. They were back to hazel, but just barely. I had heard that wolves were pretty frightening to their mates at first contact. I took up meditation to try to control this, and now it was being put to the test. My skin was hot, I was thirsty, hungry, so many things I wasn't minutes ago. And more than anything, I wanted sex. My fangs ached to bite and mark my mate, my body to claim hers...and all I had was a scent?! Insanity!

I descended the steps quickly, nodding and giving quick greetings as I moved past people. Now in a sea of dresses and suits, the scent seemed to fade. I stood, and waited.

Gardenias?! The garden pool? Wait....my garden pool?! It was closed off to guests!

I raced outside.
