I got word from Dar that he still wanted to talk. This time we met in the office. He came with a book under his arm. He sat down, and started talking.

"Jiro tried to mount my mate before I found her." He waited for a reaction, but I didn't have one. "You knew."

"It wasn't my story to tell." I braced for his anger, but he only sighed.

"He told her that if she wasn't the witch, their offspring would be?"

I frowned. "Now that, I didn't know." I sat for a moment, waiting for more.

"The witch," he repeated. "The Witch?"

I shook my head, frowning. "Help me out here."

He set the book down on my desk, which gave up a small cloud of dust. He went through the pages. He finally opened it and pointed. "Look."

"Look at what?" I asked him.

"Don't you recognize these?"

"Well, yes, they're ancient drawings from the first werewolves."

"Do you remember the story?"

"Yes," I nodded, frowning. "It's familiar--it's the-wait, the moonstone legend!"

"Exactly."

"Exactly what?" I sat back in my chair. "This is lore--"

"What if it's not?"

I started laughing. "What?"

"Describe the drawing," Dar said. "Humor me."

I frowned at the drawing

I frowned at the drawing. "Okay, this--" I pointed at the middle light blue orb. "is the moonstone."

"Of course, but the beings around it?"

"Okay, the one in green is the warrior, the one in white is the wise man, the one at the bottom is the woman, and the one in red is the..." Wait a minute.

"Say it."

"The witch," I swallowed hard. "But this isn't true."

"What isn't true?" He tapped the book. "Every bit of lore has truth to it. And the more I think of it, the more I wonder if everything is happening for a reason! Look!" He tapped the figure in white. "You are the wise man-" He tapped the figure in green. "I am the warrior-" He tapped the figure in red. "Zuri is the witch, and-" He pounded his fist on the figure in blue.  "Amber is the woman!"

"But this is--"

"Something Jiro may have believed in," Dar interjected. "He told my mate if she wasn't the witch, their offspring would be. He is trying to find power, Alpha Ian. What if he's trying to find it?"

"The moonstone."

"Yes!"

I felt uneasy. "We need to do more research." When I saw that Dar looked instantly relieved, I asked, "Up for a little trip to Wisdom?"

Dar's expression broke into a grin. "Sounds like a plan."
