For once you were right. Jack hadn't come last night. You didn't remember how long you stayed up but you know you eventually dozed off while waiting for Jack in fear. Your nightmares held the faces of killers, no surprise there they'd been plaguing your sleep since night one. One of the reasons you tried to sleep early, and slept in, was due to the constant awakenings from paranoia driven nightmares. Last night's was the worse, you think at one point you woke up crying but never had the energy to move from bed.

When you finally pulled yourself out of the covers, you made sure to search every inch of your room to make sure he hadn't come while you were asleep. Everything seemed clear. Save for the blue rose sitting on your desk. You hadn't put it in water, nor had you ever checked if it was real. Though by the signs of the petals starting to wilt you could only guess it was. Would he be mad you let it die? You weren't really sure if you should care anymore, the police were keeping a good hold on him.

You wondered how long they'd stay. A few days could be three or four at most, maybe longer if there wasn't much other crime in the city but you doubted that could happen. Would that be long enough to bore Jack? To make him go run off to find someone else to torment? Letting yourself hope again was a bad idea but the idea sounded so damn good you couldn't help it.

After waking up and eating breakfast, you started to realize you were running out of things to do. Sure you didn't usually go outside much but it felt weird not even being able to take a trip to the park or go get a snack somewhere. With your friends all busy for the summer, plus police watch at the moment, you couldn't spend time with them either. You were basically alone within your house, only having TV, internet and video games to entertain you. Though to be fair that could entertain you for quite a bit if used right.

With nothing better to do you decided it was time to find a new show on Netflix to watch during your police protection. Of course you'd still be scared to leave the house for a while after, but at least with them gone you could feel more comfortable in your yard or listening to loud music.

Some might argue your day was boring, or wasted, but it seemed fine to you. Searching through Netflix and watching the first episode of whatever seemed interesting until you found a show you wanted to continue watching. At some point during your long show viewing period, close to sunset, you felt your eyelids get heavy and start to droop. Maybe a nap wouldn't be so bad, then you could stay up and finish this show.

How long you were out was a question that wasn't answered for some time after your awakening. Which has been caused by the loud nearby sounds of sirens, that were fading. Rubbing your eyes you shot up and ran to the window, suppressing a yawn as you watched red and blue lights drive away. Something had happened, something so bad all the police had to be called in.

Without thinking you switched the TV to the news. In your tired state you weren't scared or anxious yet, just confused and curious. A reporter was on live, speaking in a flurry.

"Three people downtown have just been stabbed, a young couple and their son. The suspect was seen darting farther into town. They are in high pursuit by the police. The suspect is- Hold on, I'm getting reports that another young teen was just stabbed four blocks down, the suspect is on the move and still very violent. Everyone on the streets please get inside quickly."

Your hands started to shake. So many more deaths, with seemingly no rhyme or reason. This didn't even seem like the killers you knew about. It was an act of haste and it seemed so odd. You felt scared even if they were on the other side of town. For half a moment you let yourself wish Jack was here to protect you again. How stupid of you, to wish for a serial killer of a people to be your knight in shining armor.

Neither of your parents were home yet, and the police had just ditched you. You were all alone and terrified. Who knows what could happen now. With killers everywhere, and clearly able to get into your house. Sitting on the couch with a blanket wrapped around you wasn't going to protect you but it helped comfort you a little. Had the house always felt this cold?

It was less than a half hour later, maybe near twenty minutes, the clock had almost hit nine when you heard a knock. The sound made you jump, and ordinarily it'd send a chill down your spine, however this one made you shake. It was coming from inside your room.

Tears of fear welling up in your eyes, you held onto the blanket tighter as if it would keep you safe. You struggled for a moment to find your voice before calling out, in the loudest voice you could muster, with pure desperation. "J-Jack?" You held your breath and waited, repeatedly praying that it was only him and you'd be safe.

The door creaked open but you hid your face in the blanket, trying not to let the sound of footsteps startle you even more. After a few moments they stopped at, what you estimated was, the entrance to the living room.

"[Your name]." The second you heard that oh so familiar low voice your head jolted up. Eyes nearly filled with tears met with endless black sockets that you'd never been so happy to see your life. Relief washed over your body and tears started to fall as you let go of the blanket. You watched as he sat next to you and titled his head ever so slightly while looking at your form. "Why are you crying?"

"I-I... I was scared... I w-was alone and the st-stabbings..." You were trying to calm down but there was a mix of hysteric and joy in your voice. You weren't sure if he fully understood through your sniffling, but you assumed he got the gist as he placed his hand on your shoulder after a moment. His touch, of course blocked by your shirt and his glove, was almost comforting. Unlike when he'd pat your head before, a gesture that felt almost mocking, this one seemed to hold some semblance of concern.

"You're not getting killed, or being left alone again." You didn't know what he meant exactly but you could tell from his tone he sounded annoyed that he hadn't been able to see you for a full day. Or maybe you were reading too much into this by hoping he cared about you, when you were sure he didn't.

"O-Okay." Yet you accepted this, because fighting wasn't an option and at the very least he'd proven he could protect you. In a murderer filled city like yours had become maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing to have around.

Finally wiping the tears from your face once you'd calmed down, you looked up at him again. This time you got a better look. He seemed different. It wasn't hard to realize he wasn't wearing his hoodie, the dark black blood smelling one. He had an odd mustard yellow jacket on that you'd never seen before. You almost wanted him to just take it off but you were sure seeing him without a coat would be even weirder.

The second thing you noticed was more shocking. Without his hoodie he didn't have a hood so he had nothing to hide his hair. You weren't sure if you expected him to be bald or some weird creature under his hood, but the messy mop of brown hair you were looking at isn't what you expected. It was a reminder that while a monster, you guessed this guy was a human still. Now you couldn't help but wonder if he had a normal face under that terrifying mask, that while it haunted your nightmares almost seemed to be a symbol of comfort in a way now.

"Why are you staring at me?" His voice was calm and inquisitive, though it still startled you. If your cheeks weren't still a faint red from crying they would obviously flushed from embarrassment as you tore your gaze away. Had you really been staring at him that long?

"U-Um I uh... I-I like your hair!" You blurted out the first thing you thought of and after a moment of thought realized it was true. You had liked it quite a bit. If it had been on a normal not serial killer boy you probably would have found him really attractive.

"My hair?... Ah yes humans seem to care a great deal about how they and others around them look, especially in relationships." You didn't understand why he spoke as if he was an outsider watching and observing the entire species, but at least he got his facts right. "So, it looks good?" You couldn't tell if that was a genuine question or if you were being teased, oh how you wished you could yank that mask off and see his expressions, but nevertheless it brought more color to your cheeks.

"Y-Yeah, it does..." Great, just where you want to be in life, admitting to a insane man that he has nice hair. At least you didn't tell him you want to feel it, it looks surprisingly soft but you're afraid it's going to feel like it's full of blood or something. And more contact with Jack isn't really something you're ready for.

"... Thank you." He seemed hesitant to say that, as if never taking a compliment. Something about this whole exchange gave you a warm feeling, in a way it could almost be seen as romantic if you ignored a few factors. No way no way you are not considering a conversation with a killer to be the slightest bit romantic. You did your best to shake the thought away immediately.

"M-My... My mom." You latched onto the first non Jack related thought you had in an effort to ignore your thoughts. "She'll b-be home soon..." It wasn't a lie, you figured she'd be home by now so she could come through the door any second.

"Then we'll take this to your room, you should be asleep anyway." He had a scolding tone, like he had become your mother. He stood up and you followed suit, once again noting the large height difference. You started to lead the way back to your room, despite knowing he knew it now, and began to think that Jack was like a parent in some ways. "It's nice to watch you sleep, you're so peaceful and not afraid." A chill went down your spine. Nope, definitely not like a parent. He's exactly what you've seen him as before.

Creepy.
