Destini’s POV
Stupid vampire must have gotten further away than I expected. I checked up and down all the streets that were within a half a mile of my house. Either he was hiding from me or I wasn’t checking correctly. I turned back toward my house, still checking everywhere and shadow I could. I was ready for this vampire to be dead so I could go ahead and call Caleb, my mentor, and let him know the job was completed. The vampire Aiden had massacred a bus full of high school students on their way back from a field trip. Some students got away, but never seen what attacked them. Some of them had been my friends. He completely drained their bodies of all the blood. He left behind DNA at the scene, all vampires had to register with the local V.O.W-Vampire on Watch. His identification came up and I was given the job to take him out because he lived in my region. Great!
I stood in front of my house peeking in the window to make sure I didn’t see my mom. My brother and his annoying fiancé was already gone and I was happy about that. Slowly creeping in the door open I bolted up the stairs with my bow and arrow in hand. There was no way I could explain to mom why I was carrying a bow and arrow. In my room I hide the many weapons that were in hiding places all over my body. Three different sizes of knives at my ankle on both legs, two different sizes of knives at my wrist, and all the knives were in little pocket straps that wrapped around my wrist and ankles. I also carried matches because it killed vampires. I never used guns, other then the fact that I was under aged; I really didn’t like them very much, though I was still trained in them.
I quickly stripped and jumped in the shower, ready to sleep this long day away.
I woke early the next morning, with a dreadful feeling. Maybe it was because I had to go to school. School wasn’t horrible in an ‘I don’t want to go to school because of bullies’, but it was just a drag, completely boring. I got dress in black, black bra and panties, black halter-top, and some black knee-knockers.
I stepped out of my room, not hearing a sound in the house, which was unusual for my mother. To her, a nice hot meal out the door in the morning would make me get good grades in school, apparently she was right because I have been.
“Mom? Mom, I’m leaving,” I yelled down the hall to her bedroom before dashing down the stairs. The warm morning breeze hit me as I stepped out of the house, it felt good and I was enjoying it, but was interrupted by the empty growling of my stomach. Crap, I would just quickly grab something and go, I couldn’t be late again for my first period, I had enough detention slips from that lady. I did take pride in all the slips she has given me; they all were plastered on my room wall.
I entered the kitchen, but quickly stopped when a horrible smell slapped me in my face, it smelled like a dead body, gross. Unfortunately, when I stepped all the way in the kitchen a body laid motionless on the floor, my mother.
“Mom? Mom are you okay?” I asked hesitatively walking over to her. I stood over her glancing over her. She was motionless, breathless, pale, and….DEAD.
“Mommy? Mommy, no… please no. Oh my god,” I cried. I touch her cold skin with the tip of my finger. She wasn’t faced toward me, so I couldn’t see her face; truthfully, I didn’t want to see it. I wanted to remember my mother by her yelling at me to get back inside because it was a school night. Though I needed to see and make sure it was her, maybe it was some random person in my house that resembled my mother from the back. That thought didn’t go so well, when I turned to see her face and it was my mother. Her horror struck face stalled me. It was full of fear and yet it had a hit of anger. I wiped the tears that were drenching the front of my shirt. I could see her face clear, it was full of fear. Fear of what? She was deadly afraid of spiders, did she see one and it scared her to death. She went to the hospital one time because my brother and I couldn’t get her heart rate down after a spider jumped off her bedroom wall and landed on her shoulder. To me it was completely stupid, but sometimes you can’t control what we are afraid of.
My mother and I didn’t have the best relationship in the world, we had different views. She wanted a princess girly girl, instead she got a tom boy vampire hunter. I didn’t even get to tell her, that I got asked out to prom and I wasn’t going to wear a black dress, even tempted to let her dress me up in her make-up since I only wore black make-up. Now what?
“Such a sad moment, your mother didn’t have to die,” a deep voice behind me said. I turned to the voice, but no one was there. I searched the kitchen with my eyes trying to find the owner of the voice. Finally my eyes rested on the pantry. The pantry door slide open and out stepped the vampire Aiden.
“You?” I growled. He smiled a cocky smile showing his pointy fangs in the process. He stepped further out of the pantry holding my favorite box of cereal, Lucky Charms. He slung it on the table, spilling some in the process. I never knew I was capable of hating someone so much, but this thing in front of me had no idea what I could do to him because I hated him so much.
I raised slowly and attacked swiftly. My fist flew to his face, he dodged every one of my blows, but I never stopped attacking him, never gave him a break as he backed up. A stupid grin appeared on his face, he was laughing at me. I finally cornered him in between the table and refrigerator, his back against the wall.
“You’re so dead you don’t even know it yet,” I proclaimed.
“Ha, you are a fast little hunter aren’t you, don’t worry, I’ll fix that,” he said, he big foot connected with my chest. My chest caved in and stung like something was broken as I flew to the other side of kitchen and slammed into the counter. I looked down quickly trying to see if I could see anything wrong, that was the worst mistake I could have done. I felt the wind before the next thing I was seeing was the back of his hand coming at my face, but I wasn’t quick enough to duck. He slapped me across the face and I was heading to the tile with painful feeling across my face, it stung. I was seeing stars for a second and then I could see the ceramic tile in front of my face. I felt the weight of the something heavy on my back and it slammed me completely to the ground.
“I haven’t eaten today, the blood of a hunter would be a pleasant breakfast for me, since Lucky Charms didn’t do the trick,” he laughed brushing my hair from my neck and turning my head at an angel.
My eyes widen in fear. He had me pinned face down and I couldn’t escape his grip, turning my neck a little more for a better strike. l knew if I struggled it would hurt more, but I just couldn’t help myself, I did it anyways. I had to get one of my knives that I had hidden safely in my strap at my wrist. My finger graze the hilt of the knife, it was pinned under my body, I slowly inched it out, though it hurt I still needed to get it from under there. I finally able slip my hand out and also the knife, carefully. I decided to wait for the right moment.
“You killed her, why?” he asked. I could feel his breath on my ear as he spoke, I felt disgusted, if I could just stab him one good time that would be great.
“I should have killed you on that street; vampires are soulless creature and should be dead. Like I’m going to make you,” I stated. He was laughing so hard that he closed his eyes for a second and that was when I took my chance.
