Spyro and Sparx found their way home, both shaken, not talking. When they reached the front of the cave which contained their house, they found their parents buzzing about the garden.

"Hello, boys!" called Nina as they neared, "Did you have have fu-" she broke off at the look on their faces. "What happened?" she asked.

"Someone attacked us" said Spyro quietly. Nina's face drained of colour, and Flash's eyes widened in shock

"Attacked?" said Flash "But who?"

"We don't know." said Sparx "But Spyro managed to save us."

"How?" asked Flash.

"I don't know how, but I somehow managed to make flames appear. Not much, but enough to get rid of them!" replied Spyro. Whilst looking shocked, as expected, Spyro was confused to see his parents exchange a look that made it seem like they were expecting this. After a second, his father said "Please come inside Spyro. Sparx, you may want to stay out here"

Sparx, who had made to follow Spyro, stopped and turned moodily. Spyro followed his parents inside.

Inside the burrow house, Flash and Nina turned to Spyro and were evidently thinking hard about what to say.

"Spyro, there's been something we've been meaning to tell you for a very long time," said Flash. Spyro looked at him curiously.

"You may have noticed over the years how different you are from the other dragonfly children," said Nina. Spyro nodded.

"Well," continued Flash, "That's because...You...Aren't a dragonfly."

Spyro gasped and his eyes widened in surprise. His parents looked confused at his reaction.

"I'd have thought you'd have been able to work that out yourself" said his Father. Spyro, thinking, realised now it did seem quite obvious.

"What am I then?" asked Spyro.

"We don't know exactly," said Nina, "But we do know you're from an ancient land far from here, where beings of immense power live,"

"They have the powers to control the elements, like you did today,"said Flash. Spyro looked from one to the other, lost for words.

"How is that possible?" Spyro asked. Neither of his parents answered. Instead, his mother flew into another room, and came back with a scroll, which she handed to him.

Spyro unfurled the scroll and began to read.

To Whomever it may concern,

Within this egg is a magical creature of extraordinary power and magic. It is my greatest concern that they are kept safe when hatched, preferably in a family environment.

When they hatch, they will believe they belong to the world they are born into. You must encourage this until the time is right to speak the truth, at which time they must be told of my imminent arrival.

I will try to find them as soon as I can, but until then I must ask that you care for them and treat them like one of your own. When I arrive, they will come with me.

Once again I urge you to make this egg's safety your top priority,

Ignitus,

Guardian of Fire

"So this...Ignitus," said Spyro, "Sent me here to keep me safe?"

His parents nodded.

"Why wasn't I safe where I was?" asked Spyro.

"Neither of us know, Spyro," said his Mother, "But it seems this person has the right intentions. The only thing is he never arrived to take you home, and we're not sure if he will ever come."

"He could be dead for all we know," said his Father.

"We should look for him!" said Spyro.

"We can't," said his Father.

"Why not?"

"That place is far too dangerous for people like us, you saw that today with those creatures. We can't, but you can," said his Mother.

"I have to go alone?" said Spyro. His parents nodded. Spyro looked back down at the letter.

"I'll go," he said quietly, "And I'll try and come back as soon as I can."

"You can't tie your destiny to us, Spyro," said his Father, "If you want to stay there, then by all means. Don't let us hold you back."

Spyro talked to his parents a while longer, and they eventually decided that it was best if Spyro attempted to find Ignitus. They recommended he stay close to the river, so he would be easy to find.

As he left the house, Sparx flew over to him.

"What was that about?" asked Sparx. Spyro didn't answer.

"Hello?" said Sparx. Spyro remained silent, walking away.

"Buddy?" said Sparx.
