"Wait Rodrick." Kat said putting her hand on his chest and pushing him back slightly.
"Did I do something wrong," he stuttered a bit, "was this a bad idea?"
"No it's fine–"
"I feel really bad holy fuck." Rodrick said taking a deep breath.
"I've just never–"
"Wait, never what?" He asked cutting Kat off.
"I've never kissed anyone, even for as short as that was." She laughed shaking her head. She felt sort of dumb in the sense that he was so comfortable with kissing her and she was hesitant.
"So you did like it?" Rodrick asked looking up at her with a smile. She couldn't resist that smile even though she knew that their friendship had just become more than that.
"I don't know," she put her finger on her chin, playing along, "it was too quick for me to judge."
"How about we try it again." Rodrick said before leaning in again. Kat stopped him right away by putting her finger to his lips.
"We have to finish this notes page first." Kat said laughing and flipping through her written up pages.
"Are you serious?" Rodrick sighed in frustration.
"You're just gonna have to wait." She winked at the boy before getting back into the notes. But little did she know while she was explaining piece by piece of the notes, Rodrick constantly stared at her lips and her eyes. Every few moments Kat would notice and laugh or try and get the boy back into focus, but nothing seemed to be working. He gave her puppy eyes and smirked at her and tried to touch her hand and she just ignored his tries.
"Okay Rodrick, seriously you have to focus if you want to get a good grade on the next test." Kat said settling.
But Rodrick didn't say anything, all he did was put both hands on Kat's face and pressed his lips to her. It was only for a few seconds but Kat had never kissed a boy before and this was an unbelievable situation for her.
"How was that?" He asked smiling still holding her face.
"Uh, um, a–good, really good." Kat stuttered while a matching smile formed on her face.
Rodrick leaned back in to kiss her.

"Katrina, honey, I know it's Saturday but it's 1 pm, you have to get up!" Kat's mom yelled from the other side of her daughter's bedroom door.
Kat's head raised immediately, her hair sticking up a bit on one side and the outline of a pencil on her cheek. She wiped her eyes and looked around. Rodrick must've left after she fell asleep at around 2 am. Kat raised herself from her bed, her elbows making the usual cracking sound.
"Im up!" Kat yelled to the awaiting mother who then stomped away.
Kat pondered on the night before for the entire day. She walked around her room biting her lip and looking out her window, which was almost a clear shot to the Heffley's. It was time for her to go make some lunch before it was dinner time but her stomach was already filled with butterflies.
"How was studying last night?" Her mom asked as Kat reached into the cabinet looking for bread.
"It went well." Kat said then looking for the peanut butter.
"You two seem to be pretty close now?" Her mother said which made Kat flinch, "glad you're making some friends."
"Yeah, friends." Kat said laughing.
"We are having a Labor Day cookout on Sunday since you all will be off of school the next day, I'll call and invite the Heffley's." Her mother said leaving the room before Kat could protest. She heard her mother and Mrs. Heffley talk on the phone for at least 45 minutes. Kat felt sick, she was so nervous to even see Rodrick's face, let alone be with him and a few other families.
"Mrs. Heffley said she will bring a fruit salad!" Kat's mom called from the other room. Kat laughed sarcastically before returning to her emotion of nervousness.
"Fuck." Kat muttered to herself while trying to finish her lunch.
She then marched herself up to her room and threw herself onto her bed. It was another warm September Saturday and she was decked out in a band tank top and flannel pajama short, which was still too hot. Kat looked at the weather on her phone only to see that it was 87 degrees with humidity that could be felt in the air. Kat looked down at her, now paling, skin and got a good idea. She found an old swim suit from the summer and her best headphones and headed outside to tan on her back deck.
"Honey don't forget sun screen!" Her mom called from inside but Kat was already drowned in her music. She laid out for quite a while until clouds started to take over the sky. Soon, the sun became invisible and Kat was stuck in the shade.
"Are you bored princess?" She heard someone yell to her.
"What?" She yelled getting up and looking over the deck railing. Below her stood Rodrick who smirked at her from afar.
"There's no sun out." He laughed pointing upwards.
"Yeah no shit." She said shaking her head with a smile. She leaned up against the railing to get a better look at the boy. He was wearing, what seemed to be, a ripped up t-shirt that was completely missing the sleeves and some of the sides. His hair was the most curly she has ever seen it.
"Looks like I will be partying with you tomorrow night?" He said.
"Hardly partying," Kat laughed, "don't get too excited."
"As long as I get some time with you, I'm all good." Rodrick yelled back up to her winking.
"Whatever diaper boy." She said rolling her eyes trying not to seem interested.
"See ya tomorrow kitty," he said walking away but then he back tracked, "I had a lot of fun last night."
"Yeah me too." Kat smiled as he walked out of her back yard. Maybe tomorrow night wouldn't be that bad after all.
