I open the door and get greeted with fresh air. I light up a cigarette, destroying the fresh air. A puff of smoke appears and I sit down in front of the door on the sidewalk. The door opens, hitting my back.
"Ouch, what the fuck?" I say annoyed. Then I turn around and instantly regret it. Pretty girl is here. I don't mind her bothering my lunch time.
"Wow, you can curse and you smoke? What a bad boy," She says.
"Yeah, totally. Shopping carts aren't the only thing I ride," I say sarcastically, giving her a wink. She chuckles and sits down with me. "Are you following me?" I ask her.
"Honestly, I am. I don't feel like making any new friends," She admits.
"We're friends?" I question.
"Will you, body bumper, cart rider, sister owner, haircut needer boy, do me the honor of being your friend?" She asks.
"Eh, I'll tolerate you," I say. She gives me a fake hurt expression with her hand on her heart. "Yes, I'll be your friend," I say seriously, looking into her eyes. Fuck, I just friend zoned myself. She smiles at me. It's one of those genuine smiles I'm only used to getting from my mother. "And my name's not body bumper, cart rider, sister owner, haircut needer boy. It's Matthew Adams." I put my hand out, signaling her to shake my hand.
"Vanessa Rose," She says while shaking my hand. What a pretty name for a pretty girl. "So you smoke? You don't seem like the type of guy to smoke," She admits.
"You've known me for like half a day," I remind her.
"Good point. Maybe I can get to know you more. Wanna hang out after school, Romeo?" She asks. Oh my gosh. Is she flirting with me?! Is that why my palms are sweating? I can feel my face hurt from smiling too much. I nod with a smile I can't control. It's the only thing I could do. If I were to open my mouth, I'd either scream or laugh nervously. "Pick me up at 5?" She says. I nod again. She smiles that genuine smile again. Vanessa Rose. A name that I'll never forget.
