"Mom, can I borrow your car?" I ask while battering my eyes.

"For why?" She questions. "Oh, and you're supposed to do the puppy dog eyes. Battering your eyes just makes you look creepy."

"Just hanging out with a friend," I reply. She glances at me for a second then goes back to writing in her notebook.

"Is it a new friend?"

"How did you know?"

"You don't normally smile when you talk about your friends. Actually, you try to avoid hanging out with them," She tells me.

"Okay, fine. I made a new friend today. I actually bumped into her at the store this morning," I inform her. As soon as she hears the word "her," she gives me her full attention. Her eyes on me, absorbing every action I do and every word I say.

"Do you like her?" She says quickly. I nod and feel my cheeks warm up. "Oh my gosh! You actually like someone!" She shrieks. Why did I pick my mother to be my best friend?

"So...can I use your car?" I ask again.

"Of course!" She squeals. My ears lose their ability to hear for a second and I turn around to go get ready. But I see Melanie hiding behind the door. Damn it, she's been eavesdropping.

"If you use my words against me, I will end you," I casually say to her and walk away. I can hear her giggling behind me.
