When we got to the airport, we were ushered to the boarding facility and quickly shoved onto the plane. We managed to find our way to the back, which wasn’t very hard because, well, it’s basically like our ‘company car’ and we share it and we’ve been on it a thousand times before. And then the flight began.
We all eventually got in our seats and began what we professionals call a “plane meeting”.
“Alright,” Delanco said, “These murders at Rio Lomas are believed to be linked by someone of cult-like natures because all of the bodies so far have been ‘encrypted’ with the same satanic symbol. We aren’t sure yet but we think there is more than one person committing these murders.”
“Well, logically that would make more sense. Think about it, if there was only one person involved the clean-up on these murders wouldn’t be as neat. “Reid piped in.
“Good point, Reid. I think you’re right. Not bad for the newbie.”
When we got off the plane, we went directly to the hotel. Since the government was lazy and didn’t want to pay for the required amount of rooms, we had to partner up. With my luck, all the decent girl partners were taken and the guys were all partnered up. Except for one….
Reid.
I slowly and semi-shamefully sulk over to Reid.
“Don’t worry. I’m not too much of a pervert.” Reid says and winks. I scoff and unlock the door with the room key. I turn and hand Reid the spare key to read as he shuts the door.
“Are you mad at me? I’m sorry I’m just a nerd and hardly anybody wants to be my partner. God, it’s like high school gym all over again.” Reid says as he sits down on the bed and buries his head in his hands.
“Aw, come on Reid don’t say that. I’m not mad at you. I promise.” I say and walk over to the bed and lift his head out of his hands. “You’re such a great guy and everybody who has ever said anything different is a piece of trash. You’re amazing and don’t you dare let anyone tell you different.”
And at that moment, I looked into Spencer’s eyes and he looked into mine. We started leaning in closer to each other and the next thing I knew…
“ARE YOU TWO READY IN THERE?” Delanco yelled as he pounded his fist on the door.
“Um…Uh…YEAH!” I yelled in slight disarray. I looked at Reid who seemed stunned but somewhat pleased. We grabbed our work bags and exited the room to proceed on with the case.
The group split up and most of the agents were sent out to do some behind the scenes work at the crime scenes. Delanco and I were assigned to the school itself. The next stop that we made was to Rio Lomas High School to question some of the students. When we got there, we were directed to the classroom that we would speak to first. We walked in and were trying to act as prepared as we could be.
“Hi, I’m Agent Brookes and this is Sgt. Delanco. And today we’re here to talk to you about some of the recent events here at Rio Lomas.”
“As a reminder, if you aren’t comfortable speaking in front of everyone, you can always leave an anonymous note after the bell.” Delanco announces.
After about an hour and a half, we had enough leads and information and decided to pack up our stuff while the students and faculty were on break.
“So, Agent Brookes,” Delanco says in a mocking tone, “Would you like to go out for dinner tonight?”
