Chapter 4

Flash forward: senior year (present)
Parkers POV
Last week was the last time Avery talked to me. I was worried about what he had to say. That would be if he ever talked to me again. I went to his house and knocked on his window, but he ignored me. He had never done that before. I called Hadley, but she didn't know what to do. Then I called Kate, who had the same issue as Hadley. Then, I finally called Luke, he told me everything Avery told him..... I couldn't believe it. I went into my bedroom and started crying.

Lucas' POV
I just betrayed my best friend. I told Parker everything that Avery wouldn't tell her. Parker seemed so crushed. It's hard to understand why Avery didn't have the guts to tell her the truth about how he feels. I finally decided to call Avery.

"Hello" I hear his voice say.

"Hey, why the hell didn't you tell Parker. She just called me and asked. I wasn't gonna lie." I said, clearly pissed off.

"You told her!?!?!?!" He said with a mixture of anger and fear in his voice.

"I've known her since kindergarten, of course I told her. I wasn't gonna lie to my first friend. By the way, dude. Next time, grow some balls and tell her the truth." I hung up before he could say anything. I can't believe he thought I wouldn't tell one of my first friends that my best friend likes her best friend.

Averys POV
I was so pissed at Lucas. I don't know why he would tell Parker that I don't like her. He knew I would get mad. Hadley is just so much more attractive than Parker. I only ever saw Parker as a friend, and I thought she knew. I have to talk to her though. I feel like a douche for not telling her myself.

Great job Avery, you probably screwed up your chances of ever talking to your first friend from this town again, I thought to myself.

I suddenly realized, I wasn't mad at Lucas, I was mad at myself.

You screwed up, dude, I thought again.

I had decided not to go to school today. I knew it would crush Parker if I did go, and I didn't want to see her hurt. I honestly feel so bad about it but I'll have to forget about it.

Kates POV
Today, Avery didn't come to school. He had never missed a day since 7th grade so I was confused. Parker seemed extremely upset, so if I mentioned his name she would probably burst into tears. She wouldn't talk to anyone, she seemed really pissed off at Hadley. Third period when the teacher said Averys name for attendance, Parker burst in to tears. I looked at the teacher and mouthed, 'bathroom?' and she gave me a subtle nod. After that I gently grabbed Parker by her shoulders and escorted her out of the room.

When we got into the hallway, I asked, "What the hell happened with Avery and why won't you talk to me?"

When she started to calm down, she said, "I can't t-tell you what happened to Avery, and I won't talk to you about this because, it involves Hadley."

The second she said that I opened the door to the classroom and said, "Lucas. A word." After I said that I saw Lucas stand up and look at the teacher for approval. When she nodded, he headed towards Parker and I.

As he closed the door I asked, "What happened with Parker and Avery that she won't tell me about?" I can tell I put him on the spot at that moment.

"Well, Parker told Avery she likes him. After a week or so, Avery replied, saying he didn't like her, he liked Hadley. So that is why Avery didn't come to school today, and also why Parker is upset/mad at Hadley." Lucas said as Parker started crying her eyes out. Lucas looked upset seeing Parker like this. I'm starting to think that Lucas likes Parker.

Lucas' POV
I couldn't stand seeing Parker so upset. I went back into the classroom and ask the teacher if I could leave early. Once I got her approval, I ran out of the school and went to Averys house. It was 9:00am right now so he was most likely awake. I went around to his bedroom window and knocked. Once I saw him open the curtain, I glared at him.

"What?" He asked when he saw that I was mad at him.

"Oh, you know what. Why would you hurt Parker like that?" I asked, still glaring.

Avery tried to act innocent. "I had to tell her the truth. I couldn't lie to her. I tried to tell her the other part of it but by the time I started, she had already run away crying."

I changed the topic. "Did you know that there is going to be a new guy tomorrow. His name is Calum and he is from Australia."

"Yeah. Kate has to show him around." Avery seemed happy, which made me feel confused. "I have spoken to him on the phone before and he seems a bit like Her. I ship it...." he said, still smiling.

Sorry this chapter is a few hours late. I was really busy with a wedding in Atlanta, Georgia and was super tired. This chapter was only 888 words and I had to put something up so, this is all we got.
