Alice swiftly walks around the people on the crowded sidewalk, her grip on Lucy's jacket never loosening. Lucy stumbles over her own feet but overall keeps up with the fast-paced twenty-six-year-old. People don't even give the two a second glance as they push their way through the crowd and into the apartment building on the street.
Alice's phone buzzes as she pulls it out to text Emerson. "Emerson says that they're already looking for you, in a frenzy. Are you sure you don't know them?"
"Positive." Lucy nods. "I..I didn't realize it a whole lot until I talked to you two, but this is something. I know that this isn't real."
"Alright," Alice mumbles before slipping the phone into her back pocket just as the lift came to their floor.
"Hello again, Alice. I haven't seen you around here in ages." The man working the lift smiles as Alice leads Lucy into the small enclosed space. Lucy bites her lip as her eyes stay fixed on the floor numbers increasing to almost the top floor.
From the outside, the building itself looked to be short but with the slowly climbing numbers and how high they actually were; this building was feeling a lot taller. Lucy swallows and breathes a sigh of relief when the doors finally open again.
"See you later Ace!" Alice smiles and waves at the man before stepping out of the lift, Lucy offers an awkward wave and nod before quickly walking after the retreating Alice. "Well, this is home sweet home."
Lucy's eyes widen when the door opens to reveal a grand apartment with a modern kitchen connecting to an even more modern living room (with books and video games covering the shelves). Four doors sit around the large space, three on the left and one on the right side of the room.
"I have two extra bedrooms," Alice explains. "So, you can stay in this one, I'm pretty sure Emerson is going to stay as well. So she'll be on the right of you."
"Thank you," Lucy mutters.
"Yeah, we're probably going to have to get moving soon anyways." Alice shrugs.
"What do you mean?" Lucy scrunches her eyebrows in confusion.
"Well, if you really don't know those people, then they're going to be able to track you here in a few days. We have to keep moving." Alice explains.
"Oh, you don't have to come with me." Lucy shakes her head. "I've already asked too much of you and-"
"Guys!" Emerson breathes while rushing into the apartment. "We have to go, now."
"What's wrong?" Alice demands.
"Well, they called the police and blamed the whole thing on us. So....we're wanted now." Emerson explains. "Which isn't anything different for me but..."
"My dad is so going to kill me," Alice grumbles. "Alright! I have a car in the garage to the side of this building, let me just pack a few things for myself...and Lucy. Then we can go."
"Are you sure?" Lucy questions.
"Yes." Alice nods before rushing away to her room.
"I'd stay and chat...but I have to grab my bag."
Days Later
"You've been driving for a while," Alice comments while looking over at Lucy who was lazily driving the car down the seemingly deserted highway. "You sure you don't want to switch?"
"I'm good." Lucy shrugs. "I seriously love driving, so it's no problem what so ever."
"If you're sure." Alice chuckles before turning back to the map that spread across her lap.
"Guys," Emerson whispers from the back, waiting to speak again after a few seconds of both girls humming in response. "There's an amusement park coming up."
"Don't we have to keep moving?" Alice questions.
"Well, I was just thinking since we're all going to be together for a while that we should all bond or something." Emerson comments. "But if you wanna just sit in the car, that's fine."
"We do need to stretch our legs." Lucy shrugs.
"See? Luc is on board!" Emerson smiles.
"Luc?" Alice and Lucy raise their eyebrows.
"I'm still working out the nicknames okay? Just please turn here."
"Fine."
One Week Later
After that trip to the park, the three girls seemed to have grown closer. Close enough to share secrets and other things together that not many people would have shared with someone they just met. The girls stopped in some little town three days after the park and booked a small hotel room for the three of them, no one really in a huge hurry to leave because no one had recognized them.
Every day, Lucy's face was on the news as missing with Emerson and Alice's faces for the kidnappers. Emerson sat reading through something she called the 'lore' and Alice just read through articles on her computer, both of them ignoring the stories. But Lucy seemed to never be able to turn it off, the messages hitting her somewhere close to her heart; god knowing why.
"Are you ever going to stop watching that story?" Emerson boredly questions while flipping the page in her book. "I mean, seriously, you've watched it how many times?"
"Yeah but...there could be something," Lucy mumbles. "Right?"
"Probably not." Alice comments. "Emerson probably has already studied it."
"True," Lucy whispers before turning off the TV. "So, what have you found?"
"Just reading the comments that my dad has made on the situation." Alice shakes her head. "It's not very good."
"What about you Emerson?" Lucy questions after offering an apologetic glance. When she doesn't receive an answer, both Alice and Lucy quickly turn to look at her. Emerson's mouth hung open with her eyes bulging in surprise. "Emerson?"
"I found something. I found why we met." Emerson stutters.
"What?"
"It's you! Lucy, you're the one! You're the one who finally puts all evil in the dirt!"
"I'm what?"
