The bell rang, and I trudged to my car, avoiding the guys.
“Hanna wait up!” A voice called. I stopped and turned as Sam caught up to me.
“Hey.” I smiled.
“Hi. Can I ride home with you?” He asked hopefully.
“Yeah, sure. Where do u live?” I prepared my GPS for his address.
“Two doors down from you...I saw you this morning.” He said. My mouth almost dropped open and I didn’t know if he was joking or not.
“Seriously?” He nodded sincerely.
“477 Athens Blvd.” He grinned.
I put the car in drive and we pulled out of the half empty lot.
“How was the rest of your day?” Sam asked. We did have a class together.
“Good- we have Spanish 2 together. Danny’s in my math class.” I said with an almost fake grin.
“Sorry about Danny, by the way. He’s really not that bad, he just takes some getting used to, thats all.” he explained.
“No it’s fine, really. I’m just not used to guys fighting over me, thats all.”
“Well, I’ll tell you a secret, they all think your really hot. I think your beautiful. But if you have a boyfriend or something, we won’t bother you.”
“No- I’m single, and thanks. No one’s ever really called me beautiful.” There it was again, the blushing like crazy.
“Well, it’s true.”
We pulled into the driveway of my house and He opened my door for me.
“You should come hang out.” He grinned.
“Sure-for a little while, I guess.” He led me across two backyards until we reached his back door.
“Sorry if its a bit of a mess.” He unlocked the door and dropped his bag by a coat tree in the corner.
“You want anything to eat or drink?” He foraged the fridge and took out a beer for himself.
“No I’m fine.” He pulled me upstairs into his room and we plopped down on his bed.
“Welcome to the man cave.” He held out one arm and gestured to his room, painted deep blue with band posters everywhere.
“You know, you don’t seem like the others...” I trailed off, not sure what to say next.
“I get that a lot. I guess I’m just the quiet one.” There was a small but significant awkward silence.
“I like that.” I said softly.
He leaned closer to me as if to kiss me, but just when he did, Ben burst into the room.
“Oh, hi Hanna, I was wondering where you went. I was looking for you before after the bell rang.”
“Oh, me? Sorry, I was just trying to get out of there. It’s bloody awful.” I said truthfully.
I could see Sam grin from the corner of my eye. Ben laughed and nodded.
“Your completely right- it’s a fuckin’ dump. I hate it.” He spat into the garbage can and pulled out a cigarette.
“Agreed.” Sam said. We went downstairs to the patio in his backyard. I do have to say, he had the huge ginormous mansion house that I though was so pretty when I saw it.
“Well, I’m gonna go fuck Allie. Just figured I’d stop by.” Ben put out his half smoked cigarette and walked away without any formal means of goodbye.
“Who’s Allie?” I asked.
“This girl he likes- why they aren’t dating is a mystery to me, but Ben’s quite unpredictable anyways, to say the least.” He pulled out a cigarette of his own and asked me if I minded that he was going to smoke. I didn’t mind of course.
“So, what about you? are you unpredictable, Sam?” I smirked and he got my vibe.
“Well, I can be.” He leaned in and kiss my lips, slow and sweet.
We kissed a little more and went back inside because of the cold. I could tell there was a lot more he wanted to do, but he didn’t say anything about it.
He really was a perfect gentleman, and it was the first time a guy of any kind had ever been so sweet to me. Calling me beautiful, sticking up for me. And he was really cute too. I’m not sure if there’s really anything negative I could say about Sam Bettley.
