Chapter 4: A Date?
I applied eyeliner to my left eye as I looked into the full length mirror in my room. Perfect. I capped the eyeliner and straightened my dark blue hair, teasing the back just a little. I smoothed out my shirt and looked at the reflection in the mirror. I didn’t look too shabby.
Jon barged in without knocking again and was clearly suspicious when he saw me looking all dressy and pretty. “Where are you going?” he asked.
“On a date” I replied, putting on a necklace and my favorite kandi cuff for good luck.
He sipped his mug of coffee and raised an eyebrow. “With who?”
“Sam Bettley- He lives in the big house a few doors down.” I explained, still fixing my hair and getting ready.
“How old is this dude?”
“Gosh, Mr. Nosy, he’s 17. He’s a junior like me.”
“That kid? Doesn’t he hang out with a bunch of weird seniors and they’re all in a band or something?”
“Yeah. He plays bass. Why?” I asked irritatedly.
“Just cause I saw you hanging out with them at lunch this week. You should make some friends who are chicks.” He demanded stubbornly.
“Jon, please. You don’t even know him.” I grabbed my shoulder bag and sweatshirt and walk over to Sam’s, purposely ignoring whatever stupid thing my brother might say next.
“Hey, beautiful.” He pulled me into a kiss and wrapped his arms around my waist.
“Hi.” I said once we’d pulled away.
“You look amazing.” He grinned.
“Thanks. You, too. Where are we going?” I asked hopeful he would tell me.
“You’ll see.” He told me. We got into his car- it smelled of leather and axe body spray, a good, strong scent. The ride was short, maybe ten minutes. He’d brought me to the new Art gallery I’d mentioned to the guys at lunch yesterday.
“Aw, Sam! You shouldn’t have.” I said softly.
“But I did. I know you wanted to go, I don’t care if it’s expensive.” He grabbed my hand as we walked towards the exhibit. I had butterflies like crazy in my stomach, and I kind of liked it because it was the first date, and I’d never really felt this way about a guy. It was different.
I tried not to think about Jon taunting me about Sam and the rest of the guys- he acted like they were bad people, but I’d grown to love them, even Danny, who was really obnoxious at times. I had it all figured out, and he didn’t know anything about the guys anyways. In other words, what I do, or who I choose to hang out with isn’t really his business.
I quickly put that out of my mind and focused on the beauty of the exhibit and Sam’s fingers intertwined in mine. We ate brunch in the cafe at the gallery, and he told me about how I should meet Cam’s girlfriend Alexia since she’s the same age as me. She’d be at the next gig Asking Alexandria would be playing in the next town over.
Since I didn’t have any friends who were girls, I was kind of looking forward to having some girl time with her, if she liked me, I mean. After all, we were both dating guys in the same band. Or was I? I wasn’t too sure if Sam and I were officially a couple yet. Oh well. Plenty of time to find out.
