Parker POV
I wish I could say that things went on like that, that we rode off into the sunset to a happily ever after; but, we didn't. I didn't know that, though. I was happy. Could you blame me? I was dating a hot football star and things were actually looking up for me - at least I thought they were.
It wasn't until a Monday morning when a fist connected with my stomach, knocking the wind out of me in an all too familiar way, that I remembered where I stood in life.
"You think you can just start shirking on your house work? Huh? Just gonna run away and disappear for a few days at a time and not fetch me my beer?" He seized the front of my shirt and thrust me agains the wall.
I stared defiantly down at my father as he lifted me off the floor, eyes hardly focused on me in his drunken stupor. I grit my teeth, forcing myself to stay still.
"You're just like your good for nothing mother." He tossed me to the floor.
"Take it back." I growled, slowly forcing myself to stand.
"What did you just say to me?" My father had this wild look in his eyes, one that meant this was about to get far uglier.
"Take back what you said about Mom." I braced myself just before he charged me. His body crashed into mine and I felt the air being forced out of my lungs once again by his weight. I blinked a few times, seeing his fist rear back. Oh boy, this should be fun.
A hand seized his wrist and yanked him off the top of me. I was still quite dizzy from my little act of bravado getting my ass tackled to the floor, though, so I stayed put for a moment. There was a lot of yelling and scuffling and then a very harsh thud. I turned my head to see my father on the ground unconscious, or dead - really either worked for me.

Griffin POV
I took a deep breath before walking across the room. Even dazed and confused my boyfriend was a total knock out. Damn...my boyfriend.
We didn't really talk about "us" a lot, and I never questioned it. I knew what we were, and I think he does too; honestly, with Parker, it's hard to know. He was such a feisty son of a bitch with skin thicker than a honey badger in Africa. But, he was also fragile in many ways. Physical was not one of them, though.
"You alright?" I pulled him up from the ground, instantly beginning to guide him out of this god forsaken house.
"Yeah," he murmured. It was probably all I was going to get out of him about it. He never really liked to share about his domestic disputes, and this wasn't the first - probably wouldn't be the last either - time that I'd knocked his father out cold.
"Good."

Parker POV
I stayed with Griffin a lot these days. Every time we ended up at my place I swear he would just pack up more of my stuff and take it to the guest bedroom at his house. His parents were quite sympathetic to my situation and offered it to me whenever I needed it. They weren't completely in the dark about Griffin and I, but I didn't push my luck by trying to sleep in their son's room.
After that morning, though, I didn't ever set foot in my house again...except Friday night - but we'll get to that later.
Griffin had given me a quick kiss on the cheek when we got out of his car in the parking lot before running to turn in an assignment before the first bell. The hallway seemed alive with chatter and it all seemed to be over the same thing, something I wanted no involvement with.
"What is going on with everyone today?" Janine fell into step with me - well, I was limping so more like into limp with me, but whatever - on the way to my locker.
"Well, the first round of playoffs starts on Friday," I turned the dial on my lock, "so that means-" a thick golden card fell out of my locker once I pulled the door open. "Ryker's party." Janine quickly retrieved the card and turned it over.
"You've been invited to the Halloween Bash on Friday, October 31. Costume and invitation required for all in attendance." She read aloud. "There's no address?" She looked at me confused. "What is this?"
"That," I tried to snag the invitation from her but she moved it just out of reach, "is a summoning from the devil himself."
"There's something on the back," she flipped it over, "Be there camera geek or else...WHAT THE FU-" I put my hand over her mouth and grabbed the gold card.
"Shh!"
"Do not shush me! Some ass hole threatened you over coming to a party! Tell me who and I'll-"
"Hey Parker," a deep voice called from down the hall. The commotion of other students didn't stop, but most of them did start to pay attention. Our eyes met, but there wasn't a shred of decency shared between the two of us. I'd managed to avoid him almost the entire semester at football games and even at practices when I'd stop by to see Griffin; but here he was, staring down the hallway at me with two other senior football players flanking him.
"I'll see you on Friday." He turned without another word or step in my direction.
"Was that...?
"Ryker Beckett. More commonly known as Ry, Captain of the Football team."
